You'll have noticed the site is being much snappier: we moved a lot of things around. We've also added some subtle but significant improvements as of today:

Enjoy!

This is excellent news! No longer will I have to choose whether or not to consuming Mood cards or accept A Polite Invitation. Or try to empty my hand before going to Zee so that I don't waste anything. :-D
In theory, it also means that madness or death won't destroy the cards in my hand either. ^_^

Also, it seems that the timer for the next card restarts at 10 minutes everytime a change of the deck occurs, no matter where it was before.

I'm pretty sure this has always been the case.

Unfortunately this is correct.

I don't know if this is one of the new "improvements" but the second chance trick no longer works on opportunity cards. I was in the Nadir with an alt and An Unlikely Garden disappeared after perhaps notting out of it upset

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Frankly I'm amazed that worked as long as it did, because it's a flat- out exploit of a bug and could never have been reasonably thought to be how the game worked.

Social Actions: send them to Kade Carrion (she/her; no Tournament of Lilies, please). an_ocelot has gone NORTH and cannot benefit from social actions!

Possibly-Useful Things: Spreadsheets and hints and link collections, oh my.

Wow. While that might be considered a design improvement, it's a pretty huge change to release unannounced.

I hope there will be some adjustment to help other people reach Tier 4 Professions - Very Infrequent Card + ~50% Success Chance is not so nice if your card goes away on failure.

While this was a bug, the two largest effects of the fix are:
  • it is much harder to reach top tier Professions - since even stat capped players with the best gear won't have a success chance much higher than 50%, and those who have yet to reach either will need to deal with 30-40% chances
  • Nadir becomes less profitable

I don't really think either is something that the game needed.

Yes, but since they were always intended to be hard/not-as-profitable, and were only less hard/more-profitable for the people who knew how to exploit a bug and were willing to do so--that is to say, cheat--really, I think it's kind of tactless to complain.

Impossible Theorems are also significantly more dangerous to procure; that 100 echo and death penalty on a nine-action branch which tops out at like 30% has often been cited as the reason this *wasn't* a bug!

The change doesn't affect storylets, just cards.

It still works on the Impossible Theorem, no? It just doesn't work on opportunity cards anymore, but Theorem-hunting is a story branch.

Unlikely Garden is pure profit stuff, so you won't be hearing much protest from me about that one. Although I must admit it sounds pretty neat whenever someone mourns of spending all their Confident Smiles only to draw the End of Battles afterward.

That "Drawing infrequent card" is not a particularly compelling obstacle, though, for something they list as "Major Lateral".

Did they remove the "perhaps not" option, or just make it so that using "perhaps not" discards the card?
Because if it's the latter, it's actually a massive improvement to Cave of the Nadir profitability. Allowing you to get rid of trash cards without accumulating Irrigo if you can get your stats low enough.

I believe it's the latter, going by lady ciel's description of the events.

Which junk cards are you going to be able to fail?

I just noticed this latest change when I tried a challenging theft on the Burglary with the Master Jewel Thief card. And I always thought that card was designed with multiple second chance expenditures in mind. Was I wrong? It was already slightly less profitable than the Celebrated Artist's Model card, and with the 'Very infrequent' frequency no longer being mitigated by multiple attempts, it is significantly worse.

Not that I want to play the card or anything. I just happened to draw it every now and then. Hmph!

Old Sins comes to mind. An Altarful of Strangers seems to qualify too.

Lets see...
debatably A Weakness in the Air (though I like that card)
An Altarful of Strangers, An Unlikely Garden (which is now "junk" if you fail,) Old Sins, and Something Moves.

Here's a question about Event Transiency: will you now get booted out of repeatable card events (like the Tower of Sparrows) once you have 8 or more Scandal? Or does it still work like before where it will only send you to the menace area when you're done?
