Polyamory and the Seduction Mechanic Messages in this topic - RSS

Hi! I'm a new player to Fallen London and there's something that I really want to try but am worried about how the game will punish me if it disagrees with this course of action.

I want to play the game polyamorously, perusing multiple seduction story lines at the same time. With most games I wouldn't try this because I know without having to ask that the game mechanic would in some way punish me, whether by ruining my relationship score with the NPCs or by giving me a negative reputation. I was wondering, since Fallen London allows non-binary people to play as their correct gender, if the game would punish polyamorous behavior for being polyamorous or if it's just as acceptable as playing a man seducing another man.

Does this make sense? I'm really excited and I want to play where my whims take me, but if the game sees this behavior as taboo and will punish me for it, I want to be aware of that as well so I can make informed choices. After all, I, as a member of the in game society, would be aware of the social taboos even if I, the player, don't know.

So is this a thing one can do without being punished just for doing it?

There is a very very very very harsh punishment for seducing a certain man in early game (not foreseeable), but otherwise no.

Well, technically you can get punished for a threesome later on, but that has more to do with the location you are using and less because of threesome. I mean, I'd get upset too if I found three strangers having a threesome on my sofa, and that's because you are trespassing and less because I disapprove of polyamorous behavior of three people I don't know.

Otherwise, feel free. Additionally, married NPC spouses never get jealous even if you boink everything else in the world.

Go for it. Pretty sure you can only marry one, but you can seduce as many as you'd like.
Edit: you may want to get a second opinion, as it has been a while since I've done any of those stories, and my memories aren't perfect.

Does polyamory apply to player-character marriage as well? I remember having a similar issue with a friend of mine who found herself to be engaged to both myself and another suitor. We asked if it was a glitch or not, but if memory serves right she couldn't marry both of her engaged lovers.

Fairly sure you can only marry one person.

DragonRidingSorceress is an Author of good standing. Mostly good standing. She's happy to accept any social action except Photographer and Loitering, but requests warnings before duping/poisoning/etc.

Seeker of Names is a... being with an obsession. They're willing to accept all invitations.

Sadly for us Poly IRL People, you can only marry monogamously, but you can romance as many people as you like. Maybe one day, poly marriage! Big Grin (It would make sense gameplay-wise, you could just only be able to equip one "Committed" at once. Granted, whether it works in the setting is another story.)

To be clear, the extremely harsh punishment for romancing a Struggling Artist is that you're saddled with his super-common, nega-profit, and somewhat stalker-ish card for the entire rest of the game.

But hey. Many storylines punish you with useless cards after playing them. I'm largely of the personal opinion that they are a small price to play for good stories. And perhaps one day soon these cards will be fixed, especially with the iOS release coming up. Who can say? (There's been a lot of nerfing lately, so perhaps buffs might come as well.)

Hey, how else do you rebuild forceful to 5 after getting subtle to 10?

I don't remember perfectly either, but I think you'll generally be fine. And if there are cases where the object of your affections doesn't want to share them, it'll be clear in advance from the stories.

There's a certain Artist, who may be Struggling along in life, which you should probably avoid seducing...
Unless you 'enjoy' the Opportunity to experience him showing up at your door on a regular basis to ask for handouts.

Suffice it to say, many of us do not - and regret having encountered the fellow. I myself decided to live in a remote address (Zee-snail shell) for a time, purely to get away from the individual.

Edit: If it helps at all, my character has seduced just about every NPC I've encountered who's been available for such actions, and there aren't many serious repercussions. So by all means, go right ahead! ^_^

There is one that comes to mind, but the consequences were less about my hedonistic pursuits, and more about what she truly wanted from our liason. (Spoilers ahead.)
She was a Quiet lass who left one morning before I woke up, and left behind a piece of paper. It was a soul-wrenching experience, knowing she was gone and wouldn't be seeing me anymore. At first I was upset, but after a while I realised that it went exactly as I should have expected - and if a text-based browser game could give me those feels, then damn it was a worthwhile experience!
(It's actually one of my favourite moments I've had from this game. :3 )

I'm sure had I fallen for her male counterpart, an Affectionate fellow, a similar thing might have occurred.
.
