A roar from the jungle shatters the morning silence, and nearly breaks the windows of Heartscross House. Your secretary smiles. "His Royal Highness will see you presently."

An old friend from Court has made good on his word. Port Carnelian - London's last colony, a hotbed of intrigue - is yours to govern.

Brave the heat to go among the people and learn what they need most. Bend the spirit and the letter of the law to its fullest extent in the pursuit of your interests.

But always remember: the Crown is watching.

Players who have been promised a governorship can now access it.

Begin by completing a term in the Foreign Office (even if you have done so before).

The Iron Republic has its own shop, which basically exists for a joke. Still, it proves it might be possible to do location-specific stores, maybe. Maybe something like a value-exchange using item prices rather than echoes; sell presbyterate passphrases for mysteries of the elder continent or something similar, maybe.

Don't worry: anything you see that looks like content or a story isn't quite real. The tangible ache of your steps on the carousel is the true flesh of reality in the Neath. You will awake from your fevered dreams of plot and character development to find that you are staring at your six out of twelve boxfuls of intrigue again. Until you look at the journal of echoed fragments by your bed and wonder: did it really happen?

Alexis: that makes sense! In a similar vein, I still enjoy it when television shows with big writer's rooms list a primary author for an episode; helps pluck out notes of flavor.

There used to be - but

(i) because so many stories have new branches added, or old content changed, over time, the credits almost invariably ended up misleading
(ii) we run a really collaborative process. Everyone in the content team has some input. We do like to indicate announce time who's the primary author, though, especially when it's a freelancer.

Alexis, dear tiger, assist me.

I have been grinding for so long I am not sure I can re-adjust to life on the 'outside'. All my friends and family have moved on, the quality of light seems different. How do I *do* content. Is it a new Affair of the Box branch? How many times round the carousel do I go? How can I possibly adjust? Oh, my but I'm getting light-headed.

You will also need to be a Person of Some Importance, and have either a Persuasive or a Shadowy that is 110 or above.

I like the idea of opening up the Blue Bazaar. Maybe get more contraband items or suchlike? Not sure how to balance it, but it sounds nice.

I'd also like the option to join the Ladies Club that your aunt is a member of, which sounds quite pro-active.

Anyway, just thought I'd add another point of data for anyone trying to work out how the reward system works:

1152 Striped Delight resulted in 40 Presbyterate Passphrases and 16 antique mysteries, for total value of 300 echoes. This leads to an echo per favour rate of 0.26. Which generally means that there's no real benefit to hoarding points for the high values. That was pretty certain anyway, but it's nice to be sure.

Lovely new content. The setting is atmospheric, and the morality of some of the choices offered is rather interesting. But why on earth do I LOSE imperial legitimacy for doing things the foreign office explicitly asks me to?

Best that I can tell, Imperial Legitimacy measures how loyal/upstanding you appear to the Court, etc., back in London. It goes down when you appear to be too sympathetic to one group of colonials or another, and goes up when you publicly reinforce your ties back in London or directly carry out their orders.

Most of these situations are relatively obvious, but a wrench is tossed into the works by the addition of the Foreign Office. The Foreign Office is not the Court. Sure, you, the Office, and even London itself may benefit from intelligence gathered from a Khaganian source, but all the Court sees is their appointed Governor getting rather cozy with the enemy. Thus, a loss in Legitimacy.

Spoiler chat based on the Foreign Office below and my expectations of this new content.
I was expecting a continuation of the Foreign Office Story and its characters. Perhaps the Devout Intriguer or the Cultured Attaché making an appearance to render the aid of the Teeth or the Face. Granted it is a pleasure to encounter a certain member of the Dilmun Club and this is solid ground for the team to work on. It would also be quite interesting if there were other markets outside of the London Bazaar we could peruse in the Bazaar Tab while abroad, and the nominally named Blue Bazaar in Port Carnelian seems a perfect place to do business - though perhaps lacking compared to its greater namesake.
That's a companion. You need to go to your Lodgings and use the storylet titled "FIND NEW STORIES: Chat with the Local Gossip", which serves exactly the purpose you need -- finding your way to new content.

No, you need to go to your Lodgins, and click on the Local Gossip. You can then talk to the Urchin (or one of the other three, each associated with a main stat).

Can the engine even support multiple different shops?

If it can, shopping at the Blue Bazaar would definitely be cool. Trade can't be *profitable*, though, since then with enough starting capital you could make virtually unlimited epa just by zailing. So they'd need to sell different goods, but at fair prices (or, technically, at prices laughably unfair in the Blue Bazaar's favor). There's still a lot of options though. Tier 2 instead of Tier 1 items? New and exotic but mechanically equivalent clothing, weapons, and companions for us to sink echoes collecting? Sapphires?

Even if it just sold Visions of the Surface, Mysteries of the Elder Continent, and maybe Whispered Secrets at semi-fair prices (or in exchange for carousel rewards), it would be useful if you want to spend a lot of time in Port Carnelian but didn't bring a lot of those currencies with you. Hell, even if a new shop is impossible a storylet for those transactions would be kind of nice.
And hopefully it would also be a new and decently competitive way of getting Visions and Mysteries (to convert to Gossip) for the FW, since stealing Journals of Infamy and doing a million side conversions is a huge chore.
While I agree that in general the Blue Bazaar should just sell different goods, it is possible for there to be some profit making as well. Some goods have a limited maximum quantity (rubbery skull, recipe for zzoup, etc) and selling those overseas could be profitable without breaking the economy. It could also just let you sell various goods that, for whatever reason, can't be sold in London at all.

Very much agreed! As we were discussing in that other thread about clubs, the current options are essentially a pair of fraternities. This might be a nice way to offer something of a different flavor, perhaps more appropriate for characters played as more classically "ladylike" without feeling like a total anachronism.

Prett sure you can't get back to Court yet, but the Carnelian Coast is pretty swell. Some very hacky rough calculations I did suggest it might be pretty profitable, maybe, possibly, but they were very rough calculations (and I didn't take into account factors like Legitimacy or the zee journeys or anything, so who knows). Still, I'm liking it, you can chill out with tigers or go drink a tea maybe.

Consider capping your Watchful and Persuasive. Most challenges are 100% at 2xx, with the exception of the lone Watchful challenge that is 60% or so at 270 Watchful.

Occasionally there are actions requiring Mysteries of Elder Continent, but the payoff is not very good.

Yep, that's it - finish your novel, and keep completing works, and eventually the Councillor will propose a scheme involving a scandalous opera that leads to your being banished. Worth noting, while you're at that stage: novels and poems take longer to complete, but they give you copies of the publication on completion, and those have a handful of uses here and there.
