The Viscountess' ending, at least, comes with a final opportunity card that carries fine writing, lore, and a reward that makes the choice materially on par with this one. I imagine the Prince-Bishop is probably as generous, even though he's a horrible jerk. edited by Toper on 6/16/2015

As I recently got another Enquiring Urchin card, where I gave this three stars so I thought I'd also share my thoughts.
What worked for me: * The Duchess and Parabola; interesting parts of the world and I am glad we got to see them * Good rewards, especially with the Opportunity cards * The jolt of excitement at seeing the *Gold* border on the reward Opportunity
What did not work for me: * Structurally it was less well crafted than the Haunted Mansion story. As I mentioned above (or in a related thread) I missed a chunk of the story accidentally and the qualities did nothing to either prevent that from happening or, at least, acknowledging that it *did* happen (I was told that I have to interview two individuals, which I never got a chance to do and the story just progressed, very discontinuously) * The main conflict did not seem fully fleshed out. I didn't really feel that I had enough information about either side * Several aspects seemed... arbitrary. I am sure there is a reason for them but those reasons weren't conveyed clearly to me. Why was the PB's award what it was? It suggests an affiliation with a certain faction that was entirely absent in the story. What were the motivations of the third party to the adjudication? That request came slightly out of left field. * The story wasn't very tied in to my character's development. For example,
while out of character I am aware of what Parabola is and who Fingerkings are in the game I have not reached that information yet. So it was very strange for my character to be totally nonplussed at all the blaze reference to the Fingerkings and not attempt to seek further clarification.
edited by genesis on 6/16/2015

I totally agree with all of this. I'm still a fairly new player, but last month's story made a lot of sense... This one... I had no idea what was happening, why I would care about either of them, how it relates to me as a character, what the stakes were, and when I respond with a "well, maybe just stay together" I got rewarded with some items that are for late-game.
Well... neat, I guess. I wish I hadn't completed it; I loved being able to go and constantly stare into that mirror and dive for coins.

I didn't like how random the content was. The previous exceptional story had more content than you could see without failing the first time through, but you were in full control over what you saw. This one had more repetition due to the RNG, and while I liked the story on the whole I feel it could have been better if things weren't so reliant on luck, especially when each action feels like it's progressing the case and you end up rushing through it all. The mechanics hindered the story, in my opinion.

I've got an exceptional friendship subscription on one of my accounts but the option to begin The Court of Cats isn't there anymore. I remember seeing it earlier in June. I hadn't had time to sit down and make a start on it yet and was going to just now before the month was over. I'm fairly certain I hadn't started it off yet.
Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening? edited by jamesm on 6/22/2015

Out of curiosity, what's the word on paypal accounts for purchasing exceptional friendship? I don't have the option to purchase outside of the continental US without it, and now that the amount I had grandfathered in from fate is gone, I'm sadly locked out of it. The wallet is willing, but the plastic is weak.

I liked this month, but my main complain could actually be
the untelegraphed stat hit when getting the final reward if you chose one of the cats- not a big deal to most players, but a huge, huge hit to someone who happens to lose from a stat they spent notability to increase.
I loved this story line (also a big cat person myself). It was very engaging, with great dialogue and difficult decisions to be made. I tried to keep them together; but alas. . . cats.
If the Exceptional Friends exclusive story lines continue along this path of amazing, I will be a friend from now until the zombie apocalypse.

So is this going to be released as a Fate-locked story soon? I've been looking forward to trying it out!

I wouldn't pay 45 fate for it, it's my least favorite story so far. The story that'll come right after it, on July, is much better.
But that's just my opinion. What do I know. I'm just a Bifurcated Owl. edited by Lemexis on 10/4/2015

Btw, the Court of Cats is available on the Fate tab now (with the new swanky silver border, no less!)

For anyone that wants to do The Court of Cats, there's a few very specific things I would like to see! It'd be amazing if someone could help out with this.
I'd like to see the option text & image for meeting the Blue Viceroy for the first time, and the option text & image for on the card at the end available if you side with the Prince-Bishop.
Or any of the failure results from quirk challenges.

Did any of the endings for this story open up new opportunity cards? I thought I remembered reading that, but I'm not sure...

There's an opportunity card that appears afterwards but only if you have Nightmares 5+, I believe.

So sorry for necro-ing such an old thread, but I do it for posterity's sake; a monolith of information in each ES's forum thread! Because of its age, I find it impossible to locate some missing echoes. One of them is, of course, the bonus card conclusion when favouring the Viscountess. For those unaware, it is a Very Infrequent card that required Nightmares 5 and The Court of Cats 100-200.
I already dug through all the echoes in this thread, but I didn't manage to put all pieces together. Maybe someone recorded this story and can help me with some action titles and where some echoes go. edited by Skinnyman on 10/6/2019

I have a record of this. Do you want to let me know which bits you are missing? NB thank you very much for the info about the rare card. I've never seen it, because I usually keep my nightmares below 3 for reasons. Must start a period of night horrors to see if it comes up.

I read the forum after finishing the story and what joy did it bring to see the card! Picking the Viscountess/Bishop option will lock the card so better pick the other option before. Maybe other players are in the same situation!

What are rewards on it? If you don't mind. I love to collect decent unusual cards, you see.

I wasn't aware that picking the Bishop option will lock the card so I didn't play it multiple times. You could do that and inform us if there are even multiple echoes.
