We've given the Bazaar tab a coat of paint, and opened the new extension. Mind how you go. There are spiders here.

Also, it's troublesome when I'm selling an item, and it jumps me back to the first page of my things.
A generally positive design, however.

Hi All,
Yes, we've just put a patch live that has addressed a couple of issue that have been noticed:
- The default sell value is now 0
- The 'My Things' tab is now ordered by sell price, then by name
- Shops are ordered by buy price, then by name
- The message popup when you buy something now appears in the center of the screen rather than overlaying the item, so when you are buying something from another another page or are buying the last of an item, it will still appear (click these will close them immediately by the way if you're sick of waiting for it to fade)
- The sidebar has been altered to accommodate the shop names (this was an issue for some people and in certain browsers)
Thanks for all your feedback so far, we are working on fixing these issues in future iterations of the interface.
Many thanks,
Liam

These ideas are all way better than the actual phase 3, which is just to fill the space with the words BUY NEX and a picture of a sad kitten.

I know people have worked hard on this, and I know the kind of work that goes into building this sort of thing.
That being said, I like the general feel of it, but it's too chunky on the real estate.
Positives: shop names and flavor to where we get these things. Negatives: Busy interface.
The + and - buttons are the kind of feature that people struggle with all the time. There is a group of people who will use them instead of keys for inputs, but they are a tad ugly and detract from the "you are browsing a shop" feeling that this should have. Using <input> type from what I understand eliminates the need for these for some webkits, making these simply a nice-to-have (or disposable, depending on your take).
The second interface item that could be reduced is the static "shop categories" pane. Instead of keeping that list visible at all times, it would feel more elegant to have a mouseover event (or touch on mobile) cascade the nodes out to be visible. This could also be used to add the narrative hooks such as "Visit a different shop" that aren't being used now due to needing the screen real estate for the crammed interface.
It could also be cleaned up by splitting buying and selling. Right now you list an item at the far low level, and that item contains a buy and sell option in it's class. This is necessary because "My Things" is (the default) shop class. If My Things was given it's own class that allowed Sell and shops had Buy options, then when you called to display a new item, it would be context aware. How many items do we own that can't be purchased anyway, and now we are forced to see grayed boxes with options never to be used.
I only noticed a performance issue on the initial load. It made me think about the loading_large.gif used during calls. If we know we're going to be having a longer page wait with this new feature, maybe have a more context appropriate gif that ties in with the idea of a Bazaar that is invoked with this tab. Perhaps something like a shop door swining open/closed or handing over/receiving a purse.
Again, I know people worked hard, and this is only the first (public) iteration. Keep up the good work.
Edit: reserializing/reloading the array after a sale is a crime, especially when you have a great flavorful sale message that pops up. This feels like the sort of thing that has to already be on the high priority list for the next release, but you know, feedback. edited by Theus on 5/30/2013

I like it.
Pros
- More flavoursome. And always reassuring to see distinctions being drawn between Winsome Orphans and Reprehensible Lizards. Fallen London is now that little bit less nightmarish.
- You can see sales prices for stuff you don't own yet, which it's sometimes useful to know.
- It takes care of some of the arithmetic.
Cons
- The price and quantity numbers are kind of small and hard to read.
- It was nice having all my stuff listed on one page. It made it easy to find stuff when I wanted to sell things. Now it's spread across seven. That could lead to a lot of clicking when I'm trying to figure out what to sell so I can buy new boots. So I'd like it if it were a) all on one page, or b) we could adjust how many items were displayed per page, or at least c) items under the 'My Things' tab were arranged in a more rational way, so I could at least guess which page to go to. (Stuff sold at the Bazaar is ordered by purchase price, but I have three pages of things with a purchase price of 0, in no discernable order.)

Don't like the new interface for two main reasons:
1. Can't see all my stuff under one page! There are now like 4 pages. Very annoying. 2. Too many categories. Clothing under 3 tabs now? I really think one is enough. Bazaar should be practical. It's now probably prettier, but confusing. I prefer the old one.

I enjoy the flavor of the new layout immensely, but I concur with other in saying that having all "my things" on one page was incredibly convenient. I highly appreciate the page doing the math for me prior to purchase/sale as well, though I do agree that the default sale amount should be changed to zero to avert unintended catastrophe (can you imagine the outrage of someone accidentally selling their overgoat?).

Not sure - I'm finding it harder to read how many of each item I have which will make it more difficult when I want to sell any excess items.
Looks like ot might be easier to buy though,

I have to say, I really like the design as far as lore goes, and the "list" format seems to be better suited to finding items quickly, but I don't like the multiple pages (I have 8 freaking pages of items) and it just seems to move slowly in general. I don't have an old computer or anything, I have plenty of RAM, but scrolling is still slow for some reason.

I too think it's more flavorsome. I don't think it's more difficult to use; rather, I think it's difficult in different ways from the old version (scrolling through it takes more time, as does getting the confirmation message when you sell an item). I also agree that it's confusing to have the menu jump back to the first page of one's items after you make a sale. edited by cathyr19355 on 5/29/2013

Please, please, PLEASE consider putting the sell default quantity to zero again. It's too easy to sell something by mistake!

"Sell my things"is certainly convenient as an all-in-one. However, flavour is again lost. And it is multi-page so that sales of multiple things at once is not advantaged. I do batch sales of different goods of various values in the same trip.
Keep "Sell my things", but I would prefer the sell feature be added back to the various businesses. Yes, it duplicates, which goes against the grain of efficient programmers, but it gives the option of retaining flavour.
Further, categories should be rationalized a bit more into a couple more different stores. After all, F.F. Gebrant's is mentioned in the "Tell me another thing" sidebar and should be a stop for all things pharmaceutical. The goal should be to only have to deal with one page of goods in each shops. Specialists, eh? Yet there are ambiguous items, like the Rattus fabers. Just allow duplication in more than one store.

As far as 'Sell My Things' goes, could we maybe have an option of an alphabetical listing? That way, if I don't know how much money I'll get from something if I sell it, I might be able to find it more easily? Also, with the buy and sell price on different pages (and the sell price hidden until you own something), things like the Scuttering Squad have a rather overly cruel surprise for those who purchase them without knowing that their sell price is dramatically less than half of the purchase price (similarly with other, similar items).

I was having an issue where the Buy button didn't give me any feedback, so I ended up buying a lot more weasels than I was expecting! Fortunately, my plant is still hungry...
While I like the new Bazaar, I don't like that I can't buy and sell at the same time. I would like to be able to have my sellable items organized like everything else, lest I have pages of things to move through.

What I like least about the "new" new layout is that buying and selling are on separate pages. I liked having both in one place, instead of having to find the same item in two different places

And thank you, Liam and the rest of the team, for listening to our responses.
Sir Frederick and Aximillio, however, I disagree with your requests. At the moment, the new layout is not overly cluttered, but another button alongside every item might push the line. It's easy enough to see the amount you currently have and type in the number (or one less than it) into the input box

I had a thought. Would it be possible for the My Things collection to have a simple search box? Then if we knew what we were looking for, we could get to it quickly by name (or possibly by price, like everything that sells for 50p). When I'd load up the old list of my things, I always popped open my browser's search box anyway to get to where I needed on the page instead of scrolling through or trusting the item image. I know nothing about what would go into this and it may be way more trouble than it's worth--I don't even know if there IS such a thing as a "simple" search box--but I thought I'd propose it, since the multi-page listing could be retained that way.

I predict a new PvP system in which cartels of Londoners engage in EVE Online style market manipulation. The extra space is to allow trade in futures, options, and eventually derivatives of devious and anachronistic sophistication.
Mortgage your Bazaar Premises! Leverage the capital and drive your rivals into penury! Revel in the realisation that Fallen London was intended as a satire on 21st century financial excess, all along...
