Inheriting officers not working as before?

I recently tried to bring my Satisfied Magician into my next playthrough as a shortcut to the Serpentine engine, and he transferred over only as the Genial Magician, so I seem to be back at square one with him.
I read that at one point you could do this, so has this 'feature' been removed/fixed? Or did I miss something when I selected my officer at the inheritance prompt?

He shows up as both Genial and Satisfied in the menu... maybe you just picked the wrong one? Happened to me once with the Brisk/Indomitable Campaigner...
