I've already gotten enough coins for my ambition but I'm looking to start collecting them, are there any good or reliable ways to get first city coins?

Ah, I remember that. Don't worry, they'll start turning up b----y everywhere soon enough. Especially if you start the Numismatrix/Spending Secrets/Counting the Days content.
You can also be contracted by people pursuing Heart's Desire to rob the Museum of Mistakes, which is fun. But then you have to decide whether or not you're going to actually give them the coins.

You also get a few when converting Cellars of Wine into Airag. This used to give out 30 First City Coins, which is how I amassed several hundred of them. But alas, a while back the reward was reduced to 5.
