Wow, I didn't know Alexis was a fan, but I suppose it makes sense. It's actually a rather touching tribute I thought, especially given that he's one of my favorite authors. Does anyone know if the card comes up more than once?

The item you get from either option is sellable, at least, and seems to be the only thing tracking whether or not you've seen the dude. So it might not show up if you already have one of the items, but if you sell it it might show up again? im not sure

I just got it and managed to get " A Headful of Picaresque Tales". Hope it comes up more than once as the text was lovely and there were other choices on the card.

Beautiful tribute! I've got it on my mantlepiece (and the text echoed).

The first choice just loops back around, only the second and third actually use up the card

Has anyone succeeded in selling their headful of tales? I can sell other items as normal, but when I try this one, I get the white screen of vexation.

I don't even want to try, I'm too afraid that the card won't show up again. I also have it echoed (card + first two options + for now also mantelpiece item - http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/Karaeir ). Also, the Devil cards look so cool now that I almost sold my soul to Affectionate Devil. Almost.

The question is nuncupatory.

- Concerning the new devil art.

Yah, I guess it was needed, they looked like bug-eyed creeps before and not the suave gentlemen they were portrayed as.

Agreed, the new Devil art is quite swoon-worthy!

The new opportunity card is a lovely tribute. The man in sober attire appears to be Iucounu.

Jack Vance's "The Dying Earth" series is already on my To Read list, and it seems I'll have to add a few others. Till I read the article, I wasn't aware he had published mystery novels, three under the Ellery Queen pseudonym. That requires further investigation!

As someone who's read more than 20 of Vance's books, I have to say The Dying Earth really doesn't deserve its status as his best-known work. It's good, yes, but owes its prestige mostly to being memorable and influential (it's from this work that D&D originally got its magic system). But he wrote much better stuff - my nod would have to go to the Durdane trilogy and the Demon Princes series. They preserve all of Vance's wit, sparkling prose, and predilection for crafting absurd and wonderful alien cultures, but at the same time display a much greater depth of characterization and, well, literary value.

Most of his books are more light-hearted adventure fare with an aim to entertain without really making you think too hard, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, but with Durdane and the Demon Princes series (books 3-5 in particular) Vance clearly set his sights higher, and in my opinion succeeded with flying colors.

Thank you for the recommendation! I'll amend my list and keep an eye out for the series when I commit my next literary shopping spree.

I was so sad when I read my favorite author died. And then today I came across the 'A Headful of Picaresque Tales'...

Thank you Alexis/FBG.

Jack Vance will be missed by so many but hopefully never forgotten.

As a note to the Rats and Cats conflict, the Matriarch doesn't take all of your Memories of Light. She 'only' takes 100 of them. And favoring the cat takes an obscene amount of your Ratly Concerns trait, as well as giving a bit of Suspicion.

Glad I didn't purchase the Matriarch, then.
