[SOLVED] Chess with the Boatman: storylet missing?

Hi! So I just let my character die after reaching Courier's Footprint, I thought I would take advantage of the watchful mood to raise my Boatman's Opponent quality but I can't find the storylet. I just have the sacrifice and dice options. It's been a long time since I last took a boat trip and I feel like I'm missing something very obvious... Apologies if the solution is really trivial, any help would be appreciated. (I tried lowering my watchful (to 177) but it didn't unlock anything; my Boatman's Opponent is at 27, far from the cap according to the wiki.)
EDIT: Nevermind, it unlocked once I finally got my Wounds under 15.
