im trying to find how to edit this gun. i wanna make ti so it does only 1 hull damage and 2 crew damage so i can actually priate ships rather then blow them up. i know how to access the save file but i dont know who to change something like the damage on weapons.

You need to edit the encyclopaedia/CombatAttacks.json file
