Is there an option besides Mt Nomad to satisfy this quest? I've never seen the Tree of Ages, does it even spawn?

Apparently not. According to the Wiki 2 options don't exist in-game yet and the other option which you mentioned also currently doesn't seem doable because the Tree of Ages doesn't seem to spawn in-game. SporksAreGoodForYou worked on that wiki page and can probably confirm or clarify this but it seems the only path to fulfilling Your Father's Bones: A Legendary Heart for the Fathomking is by presenting the Fathomking with Mt Nomad's Heart.
One guaranteed way to kill Mt Nomad is to use a ship with a forward gun slot, get Icarus in Black, A Lump of Blue Scintillack and 2 Doomed Monster Hunters (ammo for Icarus in Black). You can sink Mt Nomad in a matter of seconds with those items.

I've sunk Nomad before I just wondered if there was another way. I remember the dude wasn't super happy I killed Nomad since they are apparently, uh, related.

Yea, take the sporule from the uttershroom instead of the cinder. kek.
Also the mountain spawns near the avid horizon.

Yeah, exactly. Pirate and Modiste aren't in yet, and Gossamer Rocks spawns are broken. The tree *should* spawn, but the random settings won't let it. Which is a shame, because it's a good fight.
So, it's Mt Nomad, or Mt Nomad.

I'm hoping it will be fixed soon. It's a known issue I believe.

Yeah you can. Fiddle the minspawn value in tiles.json under gossamer. Change it from 0 to 1. Or Max to 3 or something.
For some reason 0&1 means nothing spawns. Tried it on other tiles. You'll need to reload the game from the desktop. It doesn't refresh system files from a menu reload.
Also, on mobile, and my fat fingers pushed report but I'm not sure whose I reported. Sorry!

Is it tiles_import you have to edit rather than tiles? Because I don't see any minspawn values in tiles but I do in tiles_import.json

It's MinTilePopulation, and you need to edit Tiles.json. The _import.json files don't directly alter the game, unless you delete the other one I guess and force the game to rebuild from the _import file and its defaults.

I thought Nomad was invincible, and it says so in the text. You can only temporarily stun him long enough to loot the body before it runs away again.

I've seen the tree of ages spawn independently off saviors rocks. You can also summon it with an element of dawn.
