I just accidentally threw out Slowcake's Amanuensis because I was vaguely sleepy and clicking on automatic pilot, having meant to click 'Say nothing' instead. I don't care so much about the lost Notability (it was quite low atm since I'd spent a lot of it during Halloween), it's easily regained, but the lost Connected: the Masters? That one really stings; I was almost at level 7. It's only one point, but they're so hard to get.

I'd suspected this was once going to happen to me, with the buttons being far too close together for my liking, but it still hurts, gah. I think I'll mark the 'throwing out' option as a plan in the future, to hopefully save myself from making the same mistake in the future.

On the other hand, since I saw that post about someone inspecting all pails of snow with Correspondence 9 and failing every time... I inspected one at Correspondence four and actually succeeded, to my great surprise. So I guess it... kind of balances out?

Sigh. I do so want to cautiously joke around with the Masters.

I feel your pain. I did that too. Twice. (On the bright side, I sold both times for a *very* generous financial reward; Cantigaster Venom the first time and a Fabulous Diamond the second. My character is genuinely devout; she goes among devils as a kind of deep undercover agent for The Other Side. But she's willing to take the good along with the evil of her peculiar position.)

Wow! RP aside, those are some very nice prizes!
Max's soul was sold for exactly 2000 pieces of brass. Not sure what that says about him...And while he is also genuinely devout, he had a soft spot for the Quiet Deviless.
Well, not anymore, clearly. He doesn't have much of a soft spot for anything.

Why he sold it to the AD instead, I have no idea. How this happened while he was possessed by those Polythreme knives? Now that's the real question.

Another sucker who mis-clicked and sold an alt's soul on the repositioned "sell your soul" option on the Brass Embassy lodgings card.

Edith had been courting the Intimate of Devils storyline for months, and was planning to sell it to the Quiet Deviless, but one moment of inattention on my phone and there it goes!

Oh well, now to get it back.

Two dunderheaded failures.
Initial mistake: buying a lease at the bazaar as my 4 card lodging about a month ago. I had the cash, because I've been working towards an overgoat. I kept thinking I'd only need ToL 8 to upgrade it. I visited the wicket today, and lo and behold, I'm an idiot.
I realized my mistake, and then bought the enough honey to buy a room at the Royal Beth. I have ToL 8, so I can upgrade it. That's fine.
Having dinged my pocketbook, I noticed I had several thousand primordial shrieks to sell. So I tried.
But I must not have put the right amount in, because here it says I have 6000 left? So I try again.

And then I have 12000. Oh yes. I'm in Nicholas pawnbrokers, not sell my things.

****

I guess it's not the worst thing I could have bought ~9000 of, but it's not getting me any closer to an overgoat.
So now I'm at about 2000 echoes. A week ago I was almost halfway.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The amount of people who accidentally sell their soul at the Embassy is really astounding. A̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶'̶s̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶o̶ ̶p̶o̶k̶e̶s̶ ̶d̶e̶v̶i̶l̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶u̶n̶s̶i̶e̶s̶,̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶'̶s̶ ̶b̶e̶s̶i̶d̶e̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶p̶o̶i̶n̶t̶

On the local news, right after nodding to myself about ten times and deciding to eat the Magnificent Feast from this year's advent calendar, my internet provider decided to go "lol nope" and knockout the DNS servers until the next day.

Could be worse, I know. But, those 10 action points...orz

I am still depressed about it. Chances are I'm not succeeding next time, so it'll take another 2 tries.

Why.

Just..

Why?

I've joined in mid-December, just in time to catch the remains of the Advent Calendar. One of the things that I've gotten from it was something worth 62.50 Echo, which was a lot of money at the time. So I sold it and bought some starter gear.
Well, it was the Nodule of Pulsating Amber, of course. I didn't even check what I can do with it, since I was just starting and didn't understand the meaning of the green border. Uh, it's not like I can't get it otherwise, and it's not like I need it painfully, either. But a free Renown-grinding item would've surely been good.

I also chose the "not my type" option at the beginning of the Myrrh Rose story, hoping to get another partner. Well, now I have a single Myrrh Rose, and if I want to see the story, I'll have to go to the Tomb Colonies and pay Fate.

Over the course of a few days and several candles' worth of convalescence, I failed the "fatal" duel with a Black Ribbon roughly a dozen times. Several of those attempts were at 70%, which takes forever to accumulate enough Running Battle for.

Much more painfully, just now in Sunless Sea...

I completed the Mr Sacks line and created a snow child, named him Boreas. This is the first time I actually made it back to London with him, but after getting the clue for the next step I frankly ignored the little guy. When he started melting, I didn't get serious about working his story until the second notice. By the time I determined what could help, third notice had passed and I lacked the materials to progress.

Here I finally decided that d--n the rest, I was going to save this thing, and lost about half my Hull full-speeding to Port Cecil. On the way I was jumped by a Bound-Shark: quarter health left. Picked up the materials, flank speed to London, tangled with two nasty pirates. Eighth health left and only 4 crew, limiting me to half engine power. Limped into home port expecting Boreas to melt literally any time.

But here I was! Full 200 hull, fuel and supplies to take me anywhere, I burned hard all the way to Iron Republic without mishap. Swapped for a longbox, powered to Station III still without trouble...
...and promptly turned in the box before looking at the other option, the one that would trade it for a heartmetal ingot.

FML. This kid is doomed.

Be of good cheer - by the time you're in a position where Renown-grinding is actually something you really want to be doing, you'll probably have seen several more just in the normal course of play.

My seeker just hit SMEN 21 and is working on St. Arthur's.
I just brought my other account back from Port Carnelian in the hopes of betraying them.
I flipped a death by water card. What's this? There's an option unlocked with no SMEN.
What possibly could happen if I play this? I wondered.
Duh. It gave me a point of SMEN.
...
and now I'm going to be freed from the name
...
and I can't betray myself.

I'm a dope.

Edit: Actually, having gone through A Bad End, it turns out I already had a point of Freed. I forgot that I started the storyline back when I was naive.
So I guess I was going to be disappointed anyhow. GAH.
In any case, anyone looking to be betrayed?

I halved my character's Watchful two times. Drowned all their secrets. Seven scars. Seven chains. Didn't have a soul for the stains, though, but I had the exact amount of proscribed material needed for the thing.

Then I rage-quited Seeking.

(I don't even know if this counts as a failure and I don't know if I'm angry at not keeping Seeking or for trying it in the first place. But, darn, I'm really angry at myself.)

(Edited twice because I keep eating words. I guess I'm still Unaccountably Peckish after all.)

Considering how bad seeking is for you, congratulations?
wink (Just poking fun. Rage-quitting does seem to be in the spirit of seeking, though, considering that it's supposed to punish you and be horrible)
