I've just started on my first story. How's everybody else on it?

Potential 210 failed in a challenge! Try again and you may have better luck..."
In all the years that I play the game I never came this close to smashing my keyboard in two and shoving it through the wreckage of the monitor.
Try again my arse. Here's to another fourteen weeks of waiting. It is an action one can undertake once every four months: suggesting I try it again is nothing but vile mockery, I say. Vile mockery!
A most sincere apology to the regulars of this worthy establishment, but I had to get it off my chest.
FOURTEEN. BLOODY. WEEKS.
GrrRrrRrrrRRRR.

Morpheus, yes. No subtext is safe when you're around. And all texts in Fallen London are subtexts.

Haha! I popped in to mention this, but you chaps are ahead of me.
(i) there is a related bug with social actions that we're ironing out for a release this morning. (Increase from social actions is in fact capped, but the cap doesn't always fire). (ii) this is a prototype for a much larger system. You can expect to see things flicker in and out of reality over the next couple of months. There is more related content coming; and the rewards from success are pretty substantial, so we will tune. (iii) it'll be much easier to reach Classic status with later content and higher caps.
You may have noticed a pattern: Watchful and Shadowy have had some experimental systems, and now it's Persuasive's turn. edited by Alexis on 3/21/2013

I think you'd be surprised at how very much of our discourse is observed. I think that the ability of the community to be heard is one of my new favorite things about Echo Bazaar in the recent months since I returned.
As for myself, I am ALSO waiting another fourteen weeks to attempt creation of a Classic tale. Failing on such random chances is intensely frustrating, but unless a new second-chance mechanic is introduced to encompass challenges that don't involve our primary statistics, I don't see a way to alleviate that particular issue.
I can only offer condolences and sympathy until then.

Sometimes a 2/3 chance of success should be read as "a 1 in 3 chance you won't like the outcome."

Hooray! Classic short story just completed thanks to the second Trade Secret. Now to begin again, write an Exceptional one, and become an author! And this time, to not waste 96 manuscript pages by failing to understand that anything you are left with after the final edit disappears...

I'm not sure that writing is good for money, but it is nice for Persuasive as long as you have the resources to put into it. Mahogany Hall is pretty good for money, and thanks to a certain Popular Song you won't be menaced as much by failures.

My thoughts exactly. Also if you only have one action, then moving into "finish your story" ends you up in a screen with all the actions locked. Then you have to refresh the screen, and you may or may not lose it on refresh.
Also disliked the luck based check in the end. I mean, this thing relies on rare successes (AGAIN! God damn, again) to progress to 200 already. And then you have one luck check that will annihilate all progress.
Aaaand suddenly I am the most persuasive person in all of London. All my requests for assistance returned 3 potentials, while I slept. It will be a long climb up... edited by Fhoenix on 3/21/2013

The option is on the Bohemians contact card. Either flip until it comes, or write letters to them with Fate from your lodgings.

I've decided to go for broke straight away and spend everything I have obtaining a classic piece of literature. This may take me a while.

Veilgarden - Literary Ambitions

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

either that or you're just having real issues with your ego
..huh, if that's the case then how DO you increase potential over 150. I have it at 154 and I would like to get a classic story, but i've got not a damn clue how to get it higher. edited by Spacemarine9 on 3/20/2013

You can upgrade your Profession from Journalist to Author on the Connected: Bohemian opportunity card, the Demi-Monde one. It requires a connection score of Bohemian 25 and an Exceptional Story. This makes me wonder if we'll have to construct other elaborate Curiosity items to upgrade the other mid-game Professions.
-- Please do not send me monstrous invitations tinged with the inks of the undernight or Boxed Cats. (I rotate my Starveling list, so it might take me a while to reach your name. I haven't forgotten anyone!)
