Wasn't "a prototype for a much larger system" how the omniscient Illuminati AI described itself in the original Deus Ex? Anything you want to tell us, Alexis? All communications pass through Doubt St... if Doubt St could be invested with intelligence... then he who controlled Doubt St would control all of London!

Morpheus, yes. No subtext is safe when you're around. And all texts in Fallen London are subtexts.

Cases. Pickpocket's Promenade is also both a Shadowy experiment, and a foundation-stone for further Watchful work.

I certainly look forward to penning a number of classics in the future. This was very fun, and I've written an Exceptional Short Story to show to my Bohemian contacts later.

I'm working towards Authordom now - I'll be a little bit sad if the Profession item is another Pet. Too many Pets! But it probably will be. (That said, I'll actually be a little bit proper sad if Hubris upgrades from Trickster and can't keep his Imp, because before he was ever in Fallen London, he already had an otherwordly Dickensian Urchin-beast as his sidekick.)

can you confirm or deny that any experimental dangerous content will involve dynamic punching systems this is the most burning question in my mind at present

Man, I feel kinda disappointed that Journalists get their advanced profession way before anyone else. They'll probably have to come up with new content before releasing the others, and if they do them one at a time, it may be months before everyone gets theirs.

The image and description for masterful story are bugged at the moment, the image is text and the description just says "they say"...

Well, just finished making a competent short story. I have to say, I am...less than thrilled about the fact that it all comes down to a luck check in the end. It feels like the old venture system all over again. :/ Still, it'll be interesting to see how this develops.

I went and wrote up a guide to authoring here, it's missing a few bits and pieces here and there but it should give you a rough guide as to what items/options give what results.
Apparently the ornate typewriter nerf makes it exactly identical to writing rapidly now? Which seems sorta superfluous, probably an oversight then again, just plain "write" gives 5 manuscripts as well. I don't know! they're all the same except write costs another action! i mean i guess at low levels the difference is likely to be more significant but when you're at the level where you can throw 60 echoes at a typewriter they're all likely to be straightforward anyway i dunno
also going to->from the "finish your story" stage shouldn't take an action imo. especially because the "last-minute nerves" option costs an action... which is entirely pointless because you can just hit the "perhaps not" button to go back to the raw materials stage without spending an action

spacemarine9 - To fill in one of the gaps exceptional short story sells for 60 Echoes

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

My thoughts exactly. Also if you only have one action, then moving into "finish your story" ends you up in a screen with all the actions locked. Then you have to refresh the screen, and you may or may not lose it on refresh.
Also disliked the luck based check in the end. I mean, this thing relies on rare successes (AGAIN! God damn, again) to progress to 200 already. And then you have one luck check that will annihilate all progress.
Aaaand suddenly I am the most persuasive person in all of London. All my requests for assistance returned 3 potentials, while I slept. It will be a long climb up... edited by Fhoenix on 3/21/2013

The wording on the edits suggests that they might just increase potential a bit over 25/50 though. "and very occasionally, a little more" doesn't really suggest "all the way up to 200" but i could be wrong there i have not seen the rare success myself
It seems sorta like you aren't even really supposed to get all the way up to Classic short stories at the minute. If New and Exciting ways of getting potential come along, it'd probably be quite possible to reduce the gamble on the cash in as well. edited by Spacemarine9 on 3/21/2013

The difference between the Ornate Typewriter and writing rapidly is that occasionally writing rapidly will make you lose 1 Potential even if you succeed. The typewriter probably doesn't have this alternate success.

Well, when there are New and Exciting ways, I'll change my opinion. As it is, it looks like a Feast mechanic (upper levels of quality demand more expensive resources, old actions stop working as the quality increases) only with a luck based challenge on top.

It should be noted that the laudanum option is capped at 100 potential. It seems that using blackmail material is currently uncapped (unless I am getting rare successes)
