The story update this evening says that your crew can now make use of Darkdrop Coffee -- but how, exactly? I am happy to experiment myself to see what happens rather than being told, thank you, but I can't figure out how to use it at all. It's not green-bordered in the Hold. Speaking to Surgeons and Cooks revealed no interaction that might involve brewing the coffee. Clicking directly on the crew icon did nothing. Is it merely an option that might turn up when you are in dire straits?

That's a bit from the Colony Ambition (hence "labourers", not "crew"), which isn't actually accessible yet but shh, shh.
