I recently had the need to go to the tomb colonies to get a tomb lion. I opted to kiss one of my fake heads to get there, but you now are required to have maxed hedonism to do it. I got there by drinking lots of laudanum.

I guess, if K & C is ever introduced, you could go on a rampage for the 50 secrets per kill?

Is that how they worked? Every time one of the Exotica items' storylets tell me "You know its use in Knife-and-Candle", I feel compelled to respond, "No, I really don't."

I've heard so from the wiki, so I expect so... But K & C was before my days (sadly?).
(1 secret per head, not 50 from each). But as said, I don't even know if it works.

Going back to the original question, belatedly:
You can raise Austere in the Iron Republic--I just did and I'm at 11+. It's a success on day 27.

Social Actions: send them to Kade Carrion (she/her; no Tournament of Lilies, please). an_ocelot has gone NORTH and cannot benefit from social actions!
Possibly-Useful Things: Spreadsheets and hints and link collections, oh my.

Hoo~ Sweet! Thank you very much; there are so many less options for Austere than Hedonist! I'll update and bookmark the related wikia page.
Hedonist 12 Source (early game to late game):
If you click "Choose something heavy" for the A night at the opera! Intimate of Devils card, you can raise Hedonist to 12. It might be higher. I'm still waiting for further cards to check. Some weeks ago, I vaguely recall clicking it a few times and seeing it capped lower? (Perhaps I was mistaken or perhaps it's been changed. Either way, it's good news!) And, yes, many of the other Hedonism options for Intimate of Devils cap lower even if they're a similar or higher level unlock card; the fancy decor and candy of A night at the opera! must make for a golden nugget of indulgence. You also need to do some level juggling to make sure you're within range to unlock it (5 to...7, 8, 9? not sure). I'm currently hovering at IoD 7.
For those of you with principles against consorting with devils and downing laudanum like it's water, you can raise Hedonist to 11 by exchanging Romantic Notions for a boatload of Greyfields 1879 in the Mr Wines is holding a sale! opportunity card. I tested it the other day and it's capped at 11. One should probably proceed from there with the Counterfeit Head of John the Baptist. Its kissing option is unlocked at Hedonist 11 (my alt had a head) and it should presumably raise Hedonist to 12 or higher? I say "probably" and "presumably" because Zeedee remains Headless, so I can't personally check. I've mostly been drawing cards at Mrs Plenty's Carnival so maybe that's affecting my chances? I distinctly remember gaining prior Exotica items while my accounts were drawing cards in Ladybones Road, Veilgarden, Spite and Watchmaker's Hill. Do I need to be in certain areas to uncover Exotica? Has anyone obtained one while at zee?

I can vouch that the Counterfeit Head is uncapped until (at the very least) 15. In a somewhat related note, I can also confirm that kissing it does not simply set your Scandal to level 8 as I had thought, but it rather gives 36 change points to whatever Scandal you already possess.. I'm growing very tired of all these trips in and out of the Colonies. On the up side, I shall very soon myself become a Scarlet Saint with 15+ in both stats. Does anyone know of non-Soul Trade grinding places for Hell and the Church?

Considered sending people requests to take your scandal *before* kissing the head, and thereby draining Scandal faster? Cause the invites can still be accepted - just not sent.

I'd also like to mention conflict cards, and, if you have excess Hounds of heaven, trade one of those for church. Exchanging souls in bulk also gains 25 cp of Hell, though that takes quite a while...

If you've got money and time to spare, you could use the Carnival to raise your connections to 10, then use the connection boosters to raise them to 20, then play conflict cards all the way. Conflict cards are +30/-15, which averages out to 7.5CP per action. There are ways to grind most connections faster, but conflict cards are a pretty good alternative if you're short on ideas.
