Although personally, I wouldn't worry about the criminal cards.
There's so many changes and revisions in the game for the past few weeks, I guess they just haven't finished polishing the old storylets while publishing new content like the profession. You know, like adding new lines to the existing storylets.

You can also get a small increase in Connected: the Great Game from the Sulky Bat opportunity card. A success gains you a few scraps, a rare success gains you a Bat With Attitude, and failure gains you Connected: Great Game, so it's a card generally worth playing regardless, even if it's not the most lucrative out there.
