My theory is that the Name is a particularly lethal strain of Correspondence, brought into existence as a result of whatever happened in the Second City.
It operates on the same principles as its parent entity. However, its effects on its vessels are far more deleterious, invariably resulting in at least one death of the host (among other things). For this reasons, name-seekers are virtually nonexistent on the Surface, unlike scholars of the 'regular' Correspondence.
