I have a question about the statistics of seeking the name: Has anyone taken that one particular option. The 50 fate option. The one that is most assuredly a Bad Idea?

In other Marsh-Mired news I think I've managed to become about as abominable as is possible. Which is 37 abominable reputations. 37 is a weird number for a cap.
also if any of the more recently beau-candled seekers would like to swap result text for that one storylet please send me a pm thankz

I'm not sure how you increased it that far. Mine has been at 11 for a long time now.

So, I've had a small problem getting started with this part of the story. I got the initial invite and Marsh-Mired 1, succeeded in the Dangerous challenge, and lost the Marsh-Mired quality. From what I understand, this is normal (well, as normal as this whole business can be, anyways). This was almost two months ago. I did get this invite before I had gotten all of my scars, stains, and chains, so did that mess things up? Or is the RNG just being its usual obstructive self?

Unfortunately, I think that's par for the course - the second message from Mr. Eaten only went out to people who were already at SMEN 8 when the update happened. My experience was similar to yours, and I asked about it a few pages ago in the thread. Alexis dropped in and strongly implied that this was intentional. Presumably at some point Failbetter will allow other people to progress in the storyline, but who knows. edited by ignotus on 1/10/2013

Are you saying that because I didn't have SMEN 8 at the precise moment the Marsh-Mired Dreams went out that there's absolutely no way I can progress?? Because that would make me very upset. In order to get from 7 to 8 I had to buy fate to get my soul back so I could stain it, and now apparently I wasted real money to progress in a storyline that just deadends forever because I didn't meet a deadline I was never warned about. If so, I'll know better than to risk wasting money on this game again.

SMEN is absolutely meant to be an exercise in frustration - don't worry, I'm sure you'll get your invite, just not immediately.

I imagine that, at a later date, Mr. Eaten will send out more invitations. All will be wells, and all manner of things shall be wells.

So I log in and see "For you: Mr Eaten would like to send you a dream of long-ago injustice". Alas, I cannot click Accept. I try and I try, but nothing happens. It sits there, taunting me. I cannot even enter the URL manually. Is anyone else having this most horrible of issues? edited by Saharan on 1/17/2013

Wait, does this mean that a second round of invitations is going out? Or did you have SMEN 8 before the initial round?

I lost my soul for the last time about three~four weeks ago, and reached SMEN 8 shortly after. Unfortunately, the invitation's since disappeared. It's as unfortunate as it is bizarre.

A message from the surface, To all my exceptional friends who remain below, I have taken the trek and risen above the neath. I intend to resume my life upon the surface as it was before, yet I shall ever mourn the loss of London. Should anyone else express such a desire to return to the surface then I shall have a spare room waiting for you until you manage to get your own affairs back into order. Farewell, All will be well, and all manner of things shall be well. edited by msraynsford on 1/26/2013

ok, trying my best to avoid spoilers here but some will be inevitable, I need help. In the carnival stage... I seem to be stuck. Without the supplies for the mirrors option, is the only way to leave to go mad or die? I thought succeeding on the games option might do something, but no such luck... PM me if there's no non-spoiler way to say.

If you've under-packed then you've gotta go mad or die. No other way 'bout it.

darn. I was afraid of that. Well, now I know. Stock up on memories of light. (If I could have converted luminosity items while there I would have had plenty, too... Sad face)
