Boss monsters not spawning

Hi, I've spent the past 4 hours trying to complete the Father's Bones quest. I only need to kill a boss monster but for some reason none of them are spawning. All I did for the past 4 hours was sail between The Chelonate and The Chapel of Lights but nothing is appearing.
I know I have the Eater of Names in my game as I've seen him a few times before but now he's gone MIA.
What's going on?
