I'm curious about this. Add why, if you care to elaborate. edited by Ginneon Thursday on 2/5/2015

I play on autosaves/invictus simply out of sheer inertia, honestly. If I want to bugtest or find something out specifically that wouldn't fit my character, I usually do go out of my way to grab a copy of the savefile and put it somewhere safe before I start messing around.

I've done both. Since Sapphire, I found Invictus far easier than previously so stuck with it for a few incarnations (deaths by choice sailing up Adam's Way) but I have reverted to saving for now so I can explore all the new story options after a captain unexpectedly survived Adam's Way

Weeks ago a poster on these boards asked if anyone had started a completely new game without using a previous captain's legacies. Out of a combination of curiosity and pure fun sense, I started a brand new ill-fated captain with the Invictus token and expected him to be the first in a long-line of ill-fated captains as I gradually got through the game. My first captain did eventually run out of fuel just outside the Khanate, and I succeeded him with a scion named Cobb. Since then, Cobb hasn't failed. He's gotten a large vessel, brought both London and The Dawn Machine to maximum Supremacy, and has saved up over a hundred thousand echoes. Honestly, the Rogue-like element only seems to have an impact on your first handful of captains. After you've played the game enough, no threats out there are truly dangerous enough to blindside you, at least usually. Rather I find you reach a certain point where you can choose when and how to end each captain. The Invictus Token can prove that. The only exception, I'm sorry to say -- is with bugs. I've seen a few captains on these boards getting killed with randomly teleporting ships or because they couldn't see how damaged their vessels were. Hopefully, that will be far less likely once the game is completed and thoroughly tested.

Manual save, though I will probably switch to Invictus sometime when I really know what I am doing with the finished game.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

It uh, honestly never occurred to me to start doing manual saves, so I haven't.
So Invictus all the way, I suppose.

Saving is for sissies. Well that's what I tell my brother anyway as he plays in merciful. Seriously tho, I stayed Invictus because it was how the game was designed to be played, and as it's more a story game than anything else tone is important. I stayed Invictus out of stubbornness and because not save scumming gives me "new" things to do on future playthrus. edited by Shivah on 2/6/2015

First six captains on Invictus, but two of them I lost to random encounters when relocated due to upgrades in the game, so holding fire on captains till we're all clear on upgrades, then it'll be Invictus

Saving, because I wanted to actually enjoy the game, and I couldn't when I had to play through the beginning quests like ten times. I'm pretty sure I've learnt enough to not die, but paranoia has helped me cultivate a stock of 20+ save files. Once we get today's update though (hopefully with the Go East ambition), I'll start a batch of new captains firmly on invictus mode.
