I can understand making the Zong more difficult but now I can't work out where to get the last item. Has anyone else found out how to get a Dread Surmise?

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

You can get it from the Alarming Scholar or the Iron Republic.

Was it also buyable in Khan's Heart somewhere, or was it for sale? I felt it was more worth finding two enigmas in the wisp ways than shutting down the scholar.

There's a few options to sell it, but nothing to buy it that I've seen

I think it's just for sale in Khan's Heart.

  • Well I am not going to shut down the Scholar. I saw the 0/0 option in the Khanate and the comment that they are difficult to come by.

I'm checking out the Iron Republic at the moment but I don't know how much it will cost or which shop might sell it. That will take some time though as I cycle through Iron Republic days.

Thanks for all your help. Got itsmile I'm now prepared to retire this captain when Sunless Sea leaves Early Access.

Frenzgyn - I think it was worth paying a bit more not to lose the Scholar.

Probably, who knows since you're planning to retire.
From a roleplay point of view, i don't like him/her very much, so, you want enigmas? There you are!

I was totally petrified when i locked down the Admiral... that mysterious guy keep me alive since Emerald, pays me also for stupid things (Cumean Canal report), save my *ss with the Revenue Men and never understand i cheat on him with Shepard Isle Port Report :p... poor guy.
Damned Dawn's Machine! It will never happen again. Never!

There is still another 24 hours to go so I can still take another trip or two around the Zea and make some more money to pass on. I'm sure I will get some things the Scholar wants.

Also in future games I know what to do and I like having the Zong for the stat boostssmile

Wait a minute... is there a point to retiring with the Zong of the Zea? Does it do anything differently than if you just retire the normal way, or do you not get anything passed on for retiring true to your ambition?
I ask because I have most of the things I need (including the Dread Surmise) but I don't want to have to spend the thousands of echoes on the 77 secrets just to get an item that gives me small bonuses that equal less than what those secrets are worth. It is a "nifty" item but I'd rather sell the Dread Surmise (or better yet, use it for something since it was so hard to get!).

If I retire without the Zong, my scion gets more echoes than if I spend them on the secrets to get the Zong, right? Does the Zong even carry over? is it worth getting?
And is there any point in spending all those echoes or doing all that work to get a Dread Surmise if your ambition isn't writing the Zong of the Zee?

It doesn't carry over as far as I'm aware -- otherwise you could potentially start a captain that has already won -- and currently the Dread Surmise has no utility other than being part of the Zong of the Zee. It's just a way to say that you officially won. I'm not sure what kind of effects there are on your successor if you retire without winning vs. retire after completing your ambition, but it's not that the Zong carries over.

You do get a Trophy copy to prove that a captain of your lineage got the Zong of the Zea (if that was their ambition). But apart from that it is just one way of successfully retiring a captain if you choose that ambition.

Anyway I had already got all the stat boosts I could get from talking to my officers and have enough money to give my next captain a good start.

I'm curious because if you give the enigmas to the Scholar something else happens:
The scholar collapses and mentions something special that happens in FrostFound --a huge realization that causes school personnel to have to carry him/her out of the room.
I'm curious if I can use it for that, since I got the Surmise without ever knowing it was useless to people without that ambition. :/
