Zero Summer Discussion Thread

Agaric: thanks for asking! Yes: we have a very good idea. But our caginess is deliberate. Take in hand the relevant bits of your horses. They’ll have room to run soon.

Hey, I just wanted to say that I love what you folks have done so far. You’ve created a really interesting setting and your writing is excellent. Thanks for the hard work, and the entertainment. :)

BIG SPOILER.

Hi. First of all, I’m really enjoying Zero Summer. I’ve been playing the Fifty Miles South of Lexington part of the game, and I was a little confused about the dying/resurrection sequence in the dragon battle. Does the number of times you die impact on the story later one?

@Professor Piggy: thanks much! We’ve really enjoyed this project. Glad you have too. There’s more coming soon, so keep your oculars properly exposed.

SPOILER

@Izziar: yes.

As much as I recall liking this story back when I first played it, I can’t really say if I do anymore since I can’t seem to play! I get the “Version 1.1 – The Well-Tipped Hat” prompt constantly, it keeps telling me to click through, then refuses to change, just asking me again and again. I wouldn’t mind having to restart the game, I can’t remember it that well anyway given the choice I plan to do just that, it doesn’t really seem to matter since I can’t access anything at the moment.

Yoips! Sorry for the late reply – we’re in full churn mode over here. I’ll direct our problem-fixer-upper to your vicinity for some fast-acting relief. Would you kindly email your particulars (character name and account name) to zerosummer@outlook.com ? Thanks for playing!

&quotA black skein drifts on hot fast wind across the plummeting sun…&quot

Day 2/Evening is now available to beta testers! It’ll be open to everyone else just as soon as we’re sure all creases have been ironed and insects have been heeled. Enjoy!

Hi! Tested the Evening and I have the results.

[1] ========
In the Impending Danger card for Platform #1, there are these pieces of text in the branch descriptions:

&quotThis will increase your Impending Danger: Platform #1 quality by a random, small amount! Your current Impending Danger: Platform #1 quality is at [q:Impending Danger: Platform #1.]&quot

&quotThis will reduce your Impending Danger: Platform #1 quality to 0, but increase your Passage of Time quality by a random amount of up to 5! Your Impending Danger: Platform #1 is [q:Impending Danger: Platform #1 and your Passage of Time is 5.]&quot

The bolded bits aren’t quite right…

[2] ========
Also: For most Alarms cards, the 26+ Slow and Steady Branch doesn’t disappear when you haven’t gotten to 26+ yet, and the less-than-26 Slow and Steady branch doesn’t disappear when you surpass that amount. They lock and unlock appropriately— they just don’t disappear.

[3] ========
It might be useful to help people know what the upper limit on The Alarms of Amarillo and Passage of Time are [?? and 150], and how much Impending Danger you can accumulate until the #$#% hits the fan (this last is optional, though, as people will learn pretty quickly). Without that, everyone’s stumbling around in the dark.

The Wounded Welkin… the Amateur Astronomer understandably did not show this evening. Is he available in the morning after?

Hey, don’t mean to be impatient, but its been a while since a (visible) update. Hope testing is going well. I see a lot of Key of Dreams stuff. I just can’t get past Hunkering Down 5 and Bad Omens 7.

According to their Facebook page, they’ve stopped development (although possibly temporarily).

Hey, how do you get the key of dreams? A lot of my storylets require it and i cant find it

Hi there! Thanks so much for your interest in Zero Summer; it’s wonderful to see people enjoying it so many years later. Unfortunately, Zero Summer is no longer in development, and it’s been so long since I touched it that I can’t provide any guidance on navigating the available content. I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for!

In the meantime, perhaps I might interest you in my upcoming game, We Are Free Mice, a narrative tarot-playing game of mice and antiquity. :slight_smile:

Key of dreams was a method used in storynexus to block off content to beta testers, and is almost never available to ordinary players.

Oh so can I not acces those parts of the story?

I would assume not, they were likely never finished.

Well that’s unfourtunate. Absolm Tinkerer here I come. Thanks for telling me, i prob wouldve spent hours searching otherwise.

One other question: Just found the Hunkering Down task and completed that, and I have all the times to move ons, but I don’t know how to get the intrepid adventurer key thing, or is that unavailable too?

I wouldn’t know, I’ve never played this particular game myself, but from my familiarity with Storynexus it doesn’t sound like one of the methods used to block off content in development.
