Zero Summer Discussion Thread

It does indeed, thanks Gordon!

Edit: On a another note, the rare success for the talisman branch of “chess in the park” has no text yet. Oh dear.

Thanks! Just an oversight. Will correct.

Those who bear the hideous Mark may now find the Jackal Caller in the shadow of the red rock. There may be found relief, though not without a dearly-paid price.

Have you seen the fiery diadem? Hold your soul in your throat a little longer. Soon you can seek the princely crown – on mortal soil, and in stranger places.

Typo in “A Killing Blow” (varmint-hunting final storylet): “It’s head” should be “Its head”.

I have purchased “The Salley Gardens” (or at least tried to) and have never heard from it again. Is that normal? Am I waiting for a card to fire?

YUCK.

What an inexcusable mistake, Sarah. I’ve left Key of Dreams on a card that blocked the rest of the plot. My sincerest apologies. You should be able to play through the story now.

Great! Thank you for the quick reply!

ETA: Oh, and I just got the Mark of the Beast. That was quick! :)

My pleasure.

That WAS quick! Shot right through that plot, then. :)

Good luck with the Mark. I understand it sears. And chews. And slurps. And the Jackal Caller is only worse, forever worse.

(I would be EXTREMELY interested in how the Mark plays out for you. Please email me when you decide to remove it, and with the method you choose.)

I presume this is related to the Nex content…? Hm. One day. Then I’ll know what all of these cryptic hints are all about.

Also, typo in rare success result “Absence” of the “Hunting” branch on the Gunslinger card: “ahve” instead of “have”.

(Speaking of which, I’m very curious as to what’s up with Seer of Rabbits. Looks like it’s a long haul story that won’t get payoff for a while yet.)

Yes to both. :)

A Moment of Inspiration (or something similar; a possible item from a Lovely Gift Basket) claims to restore the action pool. What it actually appears to do is to restore ten actions, which is not quite the same thing. Suggest either getting it to restore the full 30 (if that’s possible) or changing its help text.

@Little The: I should amend: the Mark of the Beast can be found by incautious characters in The Salley Gardens.

The other thing is available both through Nex content and regular play. Zero Summer has several long, scattered-site stories like “Seer of Rabbits.” Three are already implemented. Two more will be along presently.

Currently waiting out my time in gaol… and was highly amused at the notion that popped into my head regarding the dice game actually being a friendly get-together for Dogs in the Vineyard… it would explain the weird reactions to rolls!

Okay, done being completely random now. :)

Hi, I don’t know if this was intentional, but during the “Salley Gardens” event that takes place downtown, every single card that I drew was the same. The description of the event makes it sound like there will be a few different cards, but I only ever drew the one.

By the way, I believe it was said that the card to buy currency with Reputation was at the Pony Express, yes? I still don’t see anything, just The Job Board and The Privileges of Reputation.

Also, the success result for the “You Don’t Need a Weatherman” on the Doc card doesn’t award Reputation.

@Sarah: thanks for the catch! Fixed downstream. (You didn’t miss much: only the charring of your own sweet self.)

@Little The: Whoops, missed a Key of Dreams. It should be live now.

@Domitia: we encourage randomness. It stimulates the imagination.

Another typo (yes, I have been in the penalty box a lot lately): Healing Pain card in Doc Roslyn’s clinic, “fed exclusively and” should be “fed exclusively on”. Also, this card is high-larious and makes me recall my own encounters with PT… not exactly fondly, but with gratitude.

Sarah: have you resolved your Mark?

Comment and two questions:

I’d like to +1 the notion of making moving not cost actions. This is partly because my memory is for crap and I can’t always remember which areas currently have plot. Just now I spent about a dozen actions verifying that in fact I have no fixed-card plots available presently (waiting on a contact; that’ll change) so I should just go get a Pony Express job, slacker that I am. :) Given the slow action refresh and the large number of areas we have to play in, that’s a LOT of fruitless actions.

Question: the Downtown Amarillo catastrophe subplot (trying not to spoil it; hope that was clear enough for you, Gordon) ended very abruptly for me, so abruptly that I wonder if a branch didn’t play? I ended up in Doc Roslyn’s clinic again (inevitable given my menaces then) and after I spent Nex to get back out… nada.

Question: How does our Pony Express score get raised? I can’t tell. Possibly I’m just dumb and missed it.
