Zero Summer Discussion Thread

Another thing:
Currently I am partying , lurking for a gun.
Right now i got a chance to speak with Ms. Ironhide( The Time Has Come card)
It said that she is wearing “a certain piece of jewelry, still warm from your very own pocket.”
However, I havent given her any jewelry, as i have decided to grab ring for myself. Seems like a mistake.

Hmm. Dang. You’re right. Thanks!

Damn, playing against the clock is a wonderful addition. Really hoping to see more of it on Day 2.
In fact, when i first heard of Zero Summer and it’s day mechanics, i though the whole game would have it. But i can see how that would be difficult to implement.

Glad you’re enjoying it! I think it’s safe to say you’ll see more timed scenarios in the future. (One is in our already-released Nex content “Fifty Miles South of Lexington,” which you can find at Absolom the Tinker!)

Hmm, this question might go unanswered, but does this game take place in post-apocalyptic world? Because i have just seen mention of Steven King. Or is it like " the other" Steven King?

I would suggest that any Texas with monster bats is likely post-SOMETHING. ;)

Fair enough.

Howdy! We’ve done a little tweaking to our Action pool and refresh rate. The pool has been increased to 30; the refresh rate has been decreased to 1/30 minutes.

We think this will give you a better experience with Zero Summer – the capacity to sit down, play to your heart’s content, then walk away for awhile.

(On the maths end of things: it will allow most folks to play twice thoroughly every day. It will also increase the value of your Nex action refreshes!)

Like this? Don’t like it so much? Please leave us your feedback. We are still very much in the tweaking stage, and we depend on you to let us know how we’re doing. Thanks!

Gordon - I just started playing Zero Summer, after a brief stint beta testing Iced Oolong. It’s nice to start it from scratch, and get my feet in it again.

I will say that opening content says that the action pool is 20, which is no longer true.

Thanks for sticking with us. We’re gratified to know that the game is holding up for our early testers. And thanks for the tip on the opening; I’ll go correct that!

Gordon/Becca -

I’m Fifty Miles South of Lexington and admiring the hell out of what you’ve put together. An interesting world, and a huge canvass. The size of the game is a little daunting however, and as it stands actually seems to penalize exploration. There are a large number of locations, but currently it costs a precious action (all the more precious with the new action pool) to move. I’ve moved around a bit in the early game - and now can’t move at all, since I’m in the Lexington content - but wasn’t really rewarded with new content in each location. That effectively wastes two actions, one to get there, and one to get back.

Hey Erik, thanks for the kind words!

We’re planning a couple of things to help reduce the feeling of “so much to explore, so little to see.”

I can’t talk about them yet, but I think they’ll make a huge difference.

Glad you’re enjoying “Fifty Miles!” It’s my baby, so it’s always a warm-fuzzy to hear it appreciated. :)

I’m gonna get my fellow-writing goon’s back here and pimp Tucker as our third writer. He’s pretty awesome too. No offense taken, but if I don’t mention him, he’ll get crabby and mope in the rain under streetlights at night. And thank you for the kind words and input!
Very cool!

And don’t sweat it: you’re not the first person to ‘catch’ it, and you won’t be the last. :)
So… would this be the same sort of geography thingie that’s in the card saying “And being this close to Corpus Christi, Amarillo’s social scene always carries an exciting hint of danger”? Because that one made me do a serious double take, y’all! ;)

Distance, like many things, is a matter of perception and priorities.

Spoiler alert for 50 miles:

Is there no way to reload one’s gun?

Thanks for remembering to spoiler tag!

There is a Reload! card. Part of the challenge/mechanics of that scene is reload management. Wise shepherding of the Reload! and a healthy dose of luck should be enough to eke out a win.

Hmm, perhaps I’m just not being patient enough then. I’ll continue to poke around. I managed to empty out all my opportunities without seeing a chance to reload!

@Addlepated: get your Reload! yet? :)

No… and with the action timer set so high now, I wasn’t even all the way full from depleting them last night when I logged in this morning. :\ I’m hesitant to keep going; I think I’m probably missing something, but I don’t want to erase a whole day’s worth of actions by going down the wrong path again.

Edit - and just as I type that, it pops up - I think I’m about 1 CP away from dying, but there it is. ;)
