Wracked by indecision (item selling question)

So I am currently holding in my hot little hands 1x Dreadful Surmise and 1x Intriguer’s Compendium, a grand total of 625 Echos worth of items.I’m not entirely sure where I got them from but that’s besides the point. E625 is for me quite a few upgrades to some of the best stat boosting gear in the game. These upgrades would be immensely useful as I am grinding for Bazaar Permits for my Premises at the Bazaar through the Thefts of a Particular Character storylet, but my Shadowy is my most neglected stat.

However

In typical gamer fashion I cant bring myself to get rid of an item that is so rare. I have looked up the uses for the two items (the Intriguer’s Compendium does nothing while the Dreadful Surmise has two uses, neither of which I see myself utilizing) but even so the question I would like to ask is: How often do these high cost items get extra uses added to them? Its mainly the thought that somewhere down the line they may possibly become useful that is stopping me from selling them.

It is very very rare for new uses for such items to be added. Still, you might wish to hold onto the Dreadful Surmise as the only ways to acquire it are seasonal or Fate-locked, while the Intriguer’s Compendium can be obtained repeatably without Fate. (Plus the Surmise does occasionally come in handy, as you say.)

Keep the Dreadful Surmise. The other item has no use, I think.

If you’re not interested in collecting items for collecting items’ sake, then yes, sell the compendium. The compendium is difficult to acquire though and echoes are not, so I personally wouldn’t sell one.

If you want to get your shadowy up AND make money, then going through the Affair of the Box storyline will be highly profitable. You’ll open up a shadowy grind that gives ~1.64 echoes per action, which is generally considered the baseline for high level grinds. Unlocking requires access to Mahogany Hall though.

I you haven’t done the Nadir questline, do it first. One of the potential rewards is an item worth about 1600 echoes which only has use in one of the ambition storylines and is more easily available through that ambition storyline if you happen to have it.

As long as you have enough Shadowy to buy inside information, I think heists are faster and lower risk than thefts of particular character. They’ll also grind up Shadowy fairly well.

It’s called a Dreadful Surmise. Dreadful. Surmise. Keep the thing. That’s too good of a name to sell.

Intriguer’s Compendium… meh. Uncanny Incanabulum is a much better name for a book. I’d sell it to pay for some best-in-slot gear, like the Far Khanate Lacquered Armor.

Having a Dreadful Surmise when Sacksmas rolls around can be extremely useful. Keep it.
