Hmm, I bought up all the houses at first as I thought I’d be able to sell them through stories or cards later, or rent them out like a landowner or a real estate agent.
It would be a fun extra storyline to be able to rent out your unused homes (but make you unable to get into them while you rent them out) or sell them off at an auction of sorts.

It’s weird how easy it is to lock yourself into things in this game. We’ve complained a lot about it over the years but nothing is done, which leads me to think it’s a design decision. However, I simply can’t fathom what the intent here is.
For a browser game that claims your decisions count, I do think it is intended to be this way. :D
And same goes for the asymmetric design.
I actually like the fact that it’s that way. Yes, it can be frustrating, but one gets locked into things in Real Life all the time. This aspect of the game makes it seem more real, and be more involving.

This is a really good idea! Allow me to copy/paste it into the Feedback thread :)

Hehe, thank you ^v^ Of course you may copy/paste it, sorry for my lateness.
Back onto this topic, wouldn’t it also be fun instead of solely buying/selling/renting them to also add an option to gamble with the houses or turn some of them into gambling dens or chique restaurants?
The options are rather endless of course :)
Yes, we should be able to sell some lodgings instead of remaining with 124567 keys
On a vaguely related note, is there some way of getting rid of non-productive companions?
I wouldn’t mind cutting ties to some (eg. Submerged Rector, Revolutionary Firebrand, Albino Rat)
You would cut ties with the Albino Rat? You monster.
Submerged Rector does have an opportunity card or something? For me, he is silent companion which does nothing.
Same here.
The Albino Rat spends a lot f its time with my salt weasel and is always welcome to stay, of course!
