I have this question: will the game creators change the echo system, so that it wouldn’t be so difficult and time wasting to gain echoes? I gain 150 deep ambers with the painting that you can choose to create in the shuttered palace by choosing the most difficult challenge, which takes some time to finish (2 candles?). Can the exchange rate be modified, so that I won’t spend 3000 deep amber for just 30 echoes?
I don’t think they’re planning on changing it any time soon. grinding echoes is just that, a grind. it takes time and resources.
Later on you will find better places to grind for it though. *as in an 1.60 echoes per action

If you’re in need of money, there’s this on the wiki. It’s more for high level players, but still kind of useful to show what the max epa is (about 1.6).
If you need deep amber for something, you can get quite a lot of it in mahogany hall doing stuff for Jasper and Frank, I think.
Echoes and grinding are, for the most part, already well balanced. Plus to change that would by extension change Everything on the game, as so much of many actions, faction favors, rewards to stories, etc is connected to echo value.
You generally needn’t worry about money until you’re very far into the game (the Making your Name stories give nice payouts which should purchase most of the good Bazaar gear). And if you need specific items (like amber), you can get them with the Unfinished Business storylets available to any POSI. They’re generally not the most efficient way to gain particular items, but not by a huge amount (even the most efficient storylet grinds won’t be more than ~50% better than unfinished business).
If you feel the game is going slow for you, that’s an unfortunate part of browser games and their monetization schemes. You can pay a bit of money for things to go a little faster or to get additional options. Otherwise you’re pretty much stuck at the pace the game provides.
Where are you on the making your name trackers?
I am a person of some importance, need 200 of some of my skills in order to move further, right?
200 is for PoSI stage 2, the making your name trackers are storylines that give large stat boosts and often unlock more content, including better ways to earn money.
They are : Name signed with a flourish
Name whispered in shadows
Name scrawled in blood
Name in seven secret alphabets.
200 is stat cap. There are only a few things that you can’t do without it. Literally a small handful. Courier Footprint… and I can’t think of anything else right now. So, no, you don’t really need it to move further.
