Whitsun is here!

It does kind of appear that aside from just enjoying all the new flavor text, when it comes to the rewards there’s little here worth going for for any moderately advanced player, aside from the Fate stuff.

I’ll just grind Shapeling Arts after I finish this trivial section.

If you take you egg to De Gustibus or crack it - record and post here your egg and results.

Success on cracking an unaugmented Aged Egg is 1 Jurassic femur and 1 unidentified thigh.

My Fully Invigorated Scarlet Egg, with an Outré Augmentation (From the Shuttered Palace) ALSO hatched into an Operatic Lyrebird. I think there’s some overlap, then.

You know, if the rewards are all BDR-centric, it makes some amount of sense to have them be Fate-locked. BDR has always been the one aspect where free players were at a significant disadvantage compared to paying ones.
It’ll be nice to see a picture emerge once we have much more complete data, to see how many rewards are actually worth it mechanically, and how many are obtainable for free. Again, drawing a parallel with the Feast of the Rose, collecting every Fate-locked reward is a very sizable expense, but very few are actually mechanically the best - the rest existing primarily for roleplay and taunting collectors. Even so, till now no FotR reward has ever disappeared (to my knowledge), so even a collector can amortise the cost over several years.
Not that I am particularly excited about a second FotR - it has always been a bit of a “pay to participate” festival, where the free items can easily be gotten on your first year and after that point there’s little to be done. But, unless they start locking multiple mechanically significant non-recurring rewards (like they did during a couple of times for Hallowmas, cough cough), I don’t think it’s particularly bad or outrageous.

Not arguing, just skipping.

Too lazy to update the sheet right now, will return in several hours or in the morning, if fall asleep (9 pm here). Probably will make another thread or actual wiki guide.

There’s also one for the Red Science. It requires at least one point in Artisan of the Red Science and (I think) that you are working on a Red Science project. It gives options if you have an Element of Dawn and / or an Impossible Theorem.

OK, no one has asked this yet. Where does one Purchase a Highly Illegal Experimental Augmentation Device (Probably)? Figuring illegal, I tried Spite, the Flit and the Docks. Figuring it’s experimental I tried the University. Figuring on purchasing, I tried the Bazaar Side Streets. No sign of the D----d thing. Is it from a Card, or what? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance for an informative reply.

Many thanks!

Well, I’m an idiot. I thought the new parabola content would be relevant to the whole egg thing, and now I have a dozen Storm-birds and no idea how to get rid of them. D—n.

Can I do anything with eggs while waiting for them to hatch? Or can I only research regular eggs in the lab in the meantime.

If you started hatching - nothing. If you haven’t started - you can skip the waiting for Fate or amber coin.

As usual, I’m completely at zee. How do I &quottoughen up&quot an egg at home? Start hatching? Then race off somewhere to augment it? (Hannah’s text makes it look like augnment, then hatch, but the &quottoughen up&quot business has got me stumped.)

First Invigorate OR Enlighten (3 times of either one, but not both, you can’t do both), then apply Augmentations in the relevant locations, and only then - hatch.

Here’s a Google Doc compiled from the people on Discord.

There’s essentially a ton of different items, and due to the time gates and Fate-locked items, there’s no feasible way to get them all. However, some of the free ones are pretty good so it’s not completely pay-to-win (though it is heavily so, Failbetter needs to make money somehow).

There is a new lab project about making a rifle too.

If I’m reading that right, it’s the number of augmentations that matter but the specific type of augmentation doesn’t. That simplifies things.

The festival lasts for 12 days, and there are 12 companions that can be obtained without spending coins. The free coins will net one clothing item.

I would be interested to know if the coins carry over from one year to the next. The boots are tempting (Shapeling Arts actually pique my interest more than the BDR, but it’s nice to have both), but I’m weighing the possibility of banking my coins and snagging a Device next year.

What I’ve gotten so far spending all my alt’s coins: Eggs without any special augment hatch into companions with +3 to one stat, there’s one for each. The ones you get by sending them to another player are also +3 stat. Adding illegal augment gives an improved version with +5 to its stat and +3 to a secondary stat. Getting both of the optional augments (available in various locations across London, two possible per egg type) gives a further improved version with +7 to its main stat, +5 to its secondary stat, and a point of BDR. I haven’t tried getting both augments plus the illegal one yet, but presumably that’s even better. Not sure if there’s anything in between either (i.e. only one augment or one+illegal).
The clothing option is a +6 shadowy, +4 R, -2 B, +1 Glasswork, -1 Nightmares robe (Auroch-Fur Coat) for the enlightened aged egg and a pair of Birdksin Gloves (Dangerous +3, Respectable +1, Monstrous Anatomy +1) for the invigorated aged egg. And now my alts are out of coins so that’s all I’ve got.
If you care only about the stats it seems there’s four companions worth getting (fully augmented), everything else appears to be lesser versions of those.
The clothing options seem pretty interesting, at least the two I tried are probably best in slot for their specific special stats.
