weekly Questions, Beginning 14/08/2017

Here’s this week’s thread for quick questions!

In Ambition: Heart’s Desire, I have just acquired a mountain-sherd from the Knotted Sock. I told the urchins that I’d return the sherd when I was finished with it. That was not necessarily true, because the King with a Hundred Hearts may well want to keep the thing.

I have also unlocked Flint, in which a mountain-sherd can be acquired. If I get my hands on a second mountain-sherd, can I give one to the king and the other to the urchins? I’m dreading the possibility that letting the king keep the sherd gives me a story quality which locks me out of giving a sherd to the urchins.

Alternately, if I let the king keep the sherd, do I get a chance to make up for my betrayal of the urchins by providing them with some service or item?

Related: are there specific choices which must be made over the course of Flint to acquire a mountain-sherd?

You don’t actually have a mountain-sherd (in mechanical terms); you have a shard of the King’s heart. You can’t give it to both sides, and there is not a way to make it up to the Urchins. At present. Maybe the finale to HD will allow that, though I wouldn’t hold my breath, because the rest of Heart’s Desire will give you plenty more opportunities to screw people over with no way to make amends.

Yes, there are; I believe it depends on what you choose to save at the conclusion of Part One (before you depart for Adam’s Way). I don’t have the details, because I got a Judgements’ Egg instead.[li]

It occurs to me to wonder if anyone cares about the Irish Question.

Both in terms of whether Ireland is out of the Empire now (it has to be, right?) and whether London’s gonna see Port Carnelian demanding independence a few years down the line.

Last time we talked about this we ended up with multi-paragraph rants discussing the American Civil War…
…but I suppose, good question. I’m frankly surprised that London has had any success with Port Carnelian at all, what with all the tigers and Khaganians who don’t have any particular reason to bow to Londoners.
Although I guess they had me as a governor for a while, so it’s no surprise everything worked out perfectly.

In the London-on-Surface story, Ireland doesn’t gain its independence until World War I, when it uses the Empire’s difficulties to strong-arm its way to it. How does the Fall affect that? Open question.

As for Port Carnelian, cutting ties with London would probably end up with everyone in a tiger’s stomach. If anything, I think the colonists would be inclined to give up the whole thing and go home.

Is there any guide to a party to optimise favours or MW? I seem to recall seeing something like that recently but can’t find it.

Would an irrigo ink cover-up tattoo inked over a normal tattoo work as a tattoo removal? Can you even ink with irrigo?

Irrigo is a color, so presumably.

You use gant for tattoo removal, I think.

according to the wiki, gant is used for removing &quotfalse tattoos&quot. whatever that means. temporary tattoos? like the ones you can find in boxed cotton candy and cheap kiddie chips? though if it works for normal inks too and it’s a good removal, tattoo artists would have an amazing life in the city. You could ink a client over and over again whenever they grew bored of their old designs.

Can’t just have an armchair stenciled on your thigh, or whatever. Perhaps a &quotfalse tattoo&quot is one which doesn’t have a story behind it? False meaning ‘untrue’, rather than ‘fake’.

Your mention of cotton candy and kiddie chips makes me wonder: what sorts of horrific baubles would come in a package of the Neathy equivalent of Cracker Jack? A surprise inside every bag of Mr Murgatroyd’s Fungal Crisps! Available in Original or new Rubbery Lumps flavor.

Surprises? In a box? You have three options: Rats, a Starveling Cat, or also Rats.

How does one change their presence (IE Extraordinary Mind, Invisible Eminence, Legendary Charisma, Shattering Force)? I am hoping to change to a different one soon so that I can start grinding out notability to level up past the 200 mark and complete some of my other renown sets.

Under Attend to Matters of Society in your lodgings.

You can ink with irritgo. The problem, of course, is that you can’t remember having the tattoo. Once you start getting an irrigo tattoo you never stop getting that tattoo.

So it will cost me 12 notability to reset, and then another 15 to get the level? Sheesh this is going to be a miserable grind.

And actually another 5 notability to select your new specialization.

Quick lore question: I know there’s an illicit trade in sunlight, but what do people actually do with the sunlight? What is it used for? Getting a tan? Growing vegetables? Murdering insects via a magnifying glass?
