Weekly Fallen London Questions, 23/04/2018

Here’s this week’s quick questions quead! Er, thread!

This is more of a technical issue, but I have coffee invites from a person who has now deactivated their account. I can’t get rid of the messages. Any solutions?

You probably need to contact support.

Were any changes recently made to the faction cards?
Specifically the options to increase your stats using favours.
I am somewhat confused as these options seem to be invisible now. I am at 200 or overcapped at all stats, but so far I saw them regularly.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind having these options get disabled when you can’t increase your stats anymore. I would welcome it as I won’t accidentally use them anymore.
I just am confused because I didn’t read anything official on it.

That change happened maybe two months ago? If I remember correctly from my expeditions to the Nadir (always a tricky proposition), the lock-out values vacillated between 198 and 199 once or twice.

I’m just now trying to catch up to all the Exceptional Stories I’ve put off playing for a while, except I’m now completely lost on the order. I don’t remember the titles either, since I only have storylet names to go on. Could someone help me sort these storylets?

  • A Meeting with an Iron Representative
  • Drunken zailors
  • An Art-Afflicted Alleyway
  • A Heated Argument
  • A Moment of Lucidity
I think that’s all of them. Last one I finished was the Season of Sceptres ending, so that should be it, right?

Oh, wow. I must have been quite absent-minded to not notice this for such a long time.
Thanks for the answer.

A meeting with an Iron representative - factory of favours (February)

Drunken zailors - lamentation lock (January)

An art afflicted alleyway - the pursuit of moths (March)

A heated argument - the murgatroyd formula (April)

A moment of lucidity - steeped in honey (December)

Many thanks!

Will the new site have a skin for what it looks like now? I really don’t want the change–if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and all that jazz.

Why don’t you wait and see what it’s like? There’s a good chance you’ll like it better.

Many times, in the past:

Me: I don’t like this new thing.
Company: Oh you’ll love it, just wait and see!
later, when old version becomes unavailable
Me: I want the old thing back.
Company: But the new thing is so much better!
Me: No, I hate it. Give the option back or I’ll stop using your service.
Company: But the new thing is better!
I and everyone who agrees with me stops using their service, leaving only the people who DO like the new thing left
Company: See, all our users now love the new thing. We were vindicated!
Me: …

(note: I don’t actually have a strong opinion on FL’s new website design. Just expressing my distaste for “better” aesthetics, as dictated by some authority or other)

There’s a reason people don’t use Livejournal anymore . . .

I don’t think it will actually drive me away or anything, but it’s absolutely pointless and detracts from the theme of the game.

Remember, all we have so far are a couple pictures from a mock-up. Failbetter listens to feedback; I expect that they’ve already implemented some of it, and they’ll continue to listen once the beta and live version are out. Don’t discount the changes before we even see them.

The server is super slow for me. Anyone else? I wonder if it’s the result of formerly mobile-only users migrating en mass to the browser…

I am one of those app users no more. Playing in the site legitimately as of today via my mobile. I don’t know how you guys did it and/or why there were so few app users to begin with.

But looking forward to the revamp.

I can’t believe I never asked back when I first got Shattering Force, but isn’t it supposed to raise your level cap? I’m still at 200. Am I misunderstanding having been away so long?

What about the old design? Probably we all just got way too used with the current!

EDIT:

Doesn’t increase your level cap, but now you are able to spend Notability to get some extra levels.
200 + Nota = New level
This means that with level 200 Dangerous and 5 Nota you will get to 205 lose all your Nota, but not be able to increase it naturally if you lose some levels. You can’t have 205, 3 Nota and hope to get to 208; you’ll end up with 203!
And Paramount Presence is available if you are not aware yet!

No, the level cap stays at 200.
BUT, you can overcap your dangerous up to 215 using your notability (up to 15) on the '‘An Unsigned Message’ card. (It sets your dangerous to 200 + current notability.)
Note, that it actually consumes your notability and things like the Cave of the Nadir can reduce your dangerous again aftwerwards. So be sure that you want to grind all that notability beforehand.

EDIT: god dammit, too slow ;)

It’s not just you. I’m on a 115mb/sec fiberoptic line and I can frequently count to 8 before a page or tab loads after I click something. It’s made grinding souls in the Flit for echoes incredibly tedious.
