Greetings, fellow subjects of Her Enduring Majesty! Here is this week’s thread for quick Fallen London questions.
I can’t get past a name scrawled in blood 5 for the life of me and the wiki is no help. Do I need to beat all of the other fighters?
I think you need to get your Fearsome Duelist quality to 5 to progress.
Which seems to be the same thing, so . . . yes?
You don’t strictly have to beat all of them. You can get up to 5 by dueling Captain Vendrik, Chi Lan, or Feducci.
Well, you pretty much need to duel most of them as they are Fearsome Duellist requirements! Check this list and don’t pump your RB more than is needed! It’ll be a shame to get to 20 and see that you can’t challenge Feducci! :D

No need to duel them all. Just to pay attention to their unlock requirements and to their "A Fearsome Duelist" gain cap.
e.g. you can duel Mr Inch until your "A Fearsome Duelist" is 4. You can duel either Chi Lan or Feducci from "A Fearsome Duelist" 3 onwards.
I’m not saying this is the most efficient way to do this, of course.
Next card in 5159850:16 WTF ???
It’s 1 Eyeless Skull to get to the Cave Of The Nadir, and then 5 to actually enter it, right-- do you need all 6 right from the start, or can you just have the 1 and gather the rest on your own time?
You can start with one to do the expedition. Once you get there, you’ll need a Ray-Drenched Cinder to enter. 5 Eyeless Skulls is the cheapest way, but the easiest is just to shell out 400 echoes. (Keeping Eyeless Skulls in your inventory adds non-discardable cards to your deck that nerf your stats.)
Right, the cinder, not the skulls. I’d just decided the skulls were the quickest way to go (considering my alt has a grand total of 3 echoes at the moment). But regardless, thanks.
Not sure how much I’m allowed to say, due to Fate-spoiler rules, but even though I already had a Ray-drenched Thingammybob, I didn’t want to give it up and so went down the Fate route. Turns out that if you do that you get a little something extra for your trouble. Something normally only available at Sackmas.
Just sayin’, in case you were considering that option.
If you have Renown: Revolutionaries 25, you can also just spend 7 Favours for a Cinder. You can only do this once, though.
Is the Taste of Lacre reset, or do last year’s leftovers provide any benefit this time around? (I know this information is floating around somewhere, but I cannot locate it.)
It’s kept between years.
I finally ground myself a zub and I’m prepared to get kicked out of court / uni. What should I do before I take the plunge?
You can now rejoin court, so it’s less of an issue.
Getting kicked out of the university, or more specifically advancing past the investigation stage, locks you out of what is probably the most profitable grind in London, just so you know. And the first stage, before investigations, has one of the easiest reliable ways to raise your Hedonist to 15.
So one could theoretically use Tears to start each Christmas with ToL 10?
Yup. You could get it as high as possible one year to start the next with a bunch extra, too.
Refreshing fixed that for me.
And I have now formed my own martial art, which will probably involve biting :D Thanks for the help, guys.
