Do you have access to Port Carnelian? This option at the end of the Foreign Office cycle will give exactly 3.
Consider stopping at Bullbone and/or Corpsecage Island. If you skip the scientific research and focus on taking everything that isn’t nailed down, a single visit averages around £2.10pa. If you use the first, third, and sixth stages of a visit to gather research notes, you’ll get 249 pages of research notes: cryptopaleontological at Bullbone, prelapsarian archaeological at Corpsecage. Two visits to either island, plus an encounter at zee with the Fleet of Truth, will allow you to turn 500 notes into £50.00 worth of items. Cryptopaleontological notes can be turned in for Storm-Threnodies, and Prelapsarian Archaeological notes can be turned in for Uncanny Incunabulum. The £pa is more complicated for this approach but it’s probably still around £2.00pa, mostly in high-tier items. I’d imagine that Grunting Fen has similar returns, but going to the Sea of Voices means more zailing and theosophistical notes pay out in a mix of extraordinary implications, incendiary gossip, and broken giant 1844, all of which can be found in London much more easily than storm-threnodies or uncanny incunabulum.
Where is a good place to grind high level Watchful? Currently mine is at 170 and I would like to close the gap to 200.
I like the Forgotten Quarter and Seeking Curios. You just need to manage your nightmares but there are some profitable rare successes and options that raise your other stats as well.

Sinning Jenny’s school
I’ve honestly found the fastest way to get stats up is via exchanging Favours with factions, each instance gives a level or two, and they stack up fast if you’re diligent about your favours. You can also exchange Sudden Insights at your Lodgings of course. Beyond that… well, you could go to Zee to do some research, but perhaps just the Forgotten Quarter would be better.
For levelling renown to 50, is the only way to wait for mood cards? Just overclocked dangerous and was surprised to find that I can’t access the option for constables at renown 47 still. I have 215+60 but need 282 dangerous to proceed.
Unless you have a Waxwail Knife, the highest you can take Dangerous without a Mood is 284 (overlapping to 215), which is enough to raise Renown from 47 to 48.
Beyond that you need a Mood.
Wow it’s going to be a long hard slog then, especially since I don’t want to spend fate to change my destiny, especially not multiple times. Quite regretting not grinding constables any further now.
The discussion about the Last Constable and Cheery Man in the other thread brought up the tale of the Comtessa. I had forgotten all about that and can’t actually remember how it ended for me. It was what seems like aeons ago, before I took a break from the game, and all that occurred back then is lost in some dusty cupboard at the back of my mind. Is there a way to find out which I picked by looking at my qualities?
I have:
A Finder of Heiresses 2
You found the missing Comtessa... poor soul.
But looking at the wiki, that seems to be more about how I felt about the business rather than what I did. Is there another tracking quality I’m overlooking that would tell me which choice I made?
I suppose it doesn’t really matter. It would suit my character’s gin and honey-addled nature, her desire to forget some of the terrible things she has done, combined with a few visits to the Royal Beth; that she wouldn’t remember. So I can live with not knowing. It would be nice, though.
Incidentally, while looking back through my journal entries to see if I recorded it (I didn’t, bah!) I happened upon the announcement for the 1894 election. However, its text has been replaced by that for the 1895 election (it mentions the DTC, the Implaccable Detective and Feducci, rather than Sinning Jenny, etc.). It really doesn’t seem worth contacting support over this, as I don’t really care. But I suppose someone ought to be told about it.
I don’t think there’s a quality to track how you ended the Comtessa’s story, just whether you did so at all.
Follow up: It would seem that “Mired in Clay” ought to help me. Yet my “Mired in Clay” is 4. The two options in the story set it to 2 or 5. I guess some other business with the Clay Men has changed that. Can’t think what, though. Never been to Polythreme. The Clay Man’s Arm, perhaps? Oh well.

It’s somewhat unfortunate, as there’s no way to get the 5 value back (that I’m aware of) once you lose it.
Seems like the timer and action counter are playing up again. Thought they’d fixed that. Is it just me?

You also get Sworn Statements weekly, as part of your pay, if you are a Correspondent.
I have noticed it a long time ago. I suspect they just reset the various clocks so they started at zero drift, but didn’t fix the underlying cause.
I’ve recently had what appears to be a variant of that – the action counter stopping and then dropping all the actions in one go. I wrote to support about it, and the answer I got suggested it was all connected.
Thanks for the answers! The islands it is then.
Another question: What is the best way to grind correspondence plaques? I have been grinding Tomb-colonies favors or even buying Primordial Screams directly from the bazaar, but I wonder if there is a more efficient way.
I believe the best way is to use thefts of particular character in the Flit to steal Journals of Infamy and then convert them into plaques.
If you don’t mind getting them slowly, affair of the box gives a few per cycle, and gives a reasonably high rate of return overall.
If you want them fast, side conversions. It’s easy to gain a mountain of 50 pence items from normal gameplay. And if you lack those, you can get Journals of Infamy from the previous poster’s suggestion.
