Hullo all! Here’s this week’s thread for short questions and answers!
Does Empire’s Kingmaker actually do anything, other than give you an idea how many times you’ve run through the box carousel? I mean are there any other stories or things that it is a prerequisite for, or that check for it or anything like that? One of the options at the end says something about it not reducing your Empire’s Kingmaker, which to me seemed to imply that there are some things that will reduce it, and that you can spend it like we used to with Connected. But as far as I can see, none of the options use it up. Have I missed something?
Just an idle thought I had while watching it go seemingly pointlessly higher. :)
It’s mainly used to gate the most profitable turnin for the Affair of the Box carousel (remember that you can’t get Mourning Candles until it hits 40). I don’t know of anything else that uses it, nor anything that reduces it.
Ah, I had missed that the candles option needed it to be 40. So at least it does something then. :)
Thanks!
Someone asked in the previous thread, and no one answered before it got locked:
Sabotaging the process for the benefit of the devils does not lock you out of anything. Now that we’re on the Renown system, it also doesn’t lose you all of your Connected: Church either!

Feel like I’ve asked this a few months back but w/e; what’s more efficient for gaining Tier 3 items, using the Soul Trade 1000 souls->Brilliant Souls or Thefts of a Particular Character (assuming of course I already have the investment of 7 Casing minimum, which it would never drop below) ?
Thefts require 32 casing (1.77 * 5 AP using gang) which are 8.88 AP plus one AP to convert casing to the item. This takes you to an average of 1.264 EPA which is better than relying on RNG for souls or any other items to convert.
If you got The Marriage of Feducci, the ending options offers a lovely grind which takes you to 1.529 EPA; 33.33 AP to get 500 Romantic Notions, for example and another to convert those to 105 Visions. This is the best Notability grind preparation grind that doesn’t rely on cards at all.
The wedding must be successful to get RN, but forgot what’s the other reward. Probably 3 Scrap of Incendiary Gossip.
Is there any concrete Story benefit of losing your soul to the devils?
It isn’t really a story benefit, but it is a concrete one: The cheaper and easier method of gaining a Brass Embassy Sanctum five-card lodging (the one only available at Christmas) requires you to have sold your soul.
So, I get immediate profit and possible home later on, plus an option to pay fate for a story line to retrieve my soul?
I don’t know anything about the storyline, how long or involved it is, or whether it is worth it or not. I got mine back without paying any Fate. It just sort of came back on its own, without me even going out looking for it, like a tomcat you don’t see for a week who then turns up back at home looking pleased with himself and acting like he’d never been away.
The storyline to get your soul back isn’t something you should play for the story. It’s mostly just a cost to get your soul back. (Unless you’re the kind of person who wants to play literally every story in FL.)
But yeah, selling your soul gets you a bit of profit immediately, easier access to one of the lodgings, a little bit fewer options at the University, but doesn’t have any major lasting effects on the game. There’s occasionally a different story branch locked/unlocked, but nothing that I remember mattering much.
(Unless you’re Seeking Mr Eaten’s Name, in which case being soulless and have stains on your soul, which is bad if you ever enter the Forgotten Quarter.)
It stops the Intimate with the Devil cards (for good) if you “sell” it via that story.
Otherwise, selling it via other means and getting it back makes those cards pop back!
Hello friends! I’ve decided not to create a separate thread and ask here: what do you usually do with your Certifiable Scrap stocks? I’m unsure if I shall grind for 3200 rewards, or collect 680 rewards, or stock Night Whispers for Neathmas or what. I’m not entirely about profitability, yet I consider it. All the rewards are just very abstract, I’m trying to imbue the choice with some RP or other reason.
Scraps aren’t really profitable no matter what you do with them, though it is (slightly) better to go for the 3200 rewards. I’m just using them to collect items, and once I’ve gotten all the scrap-exclusive items I’ll stop getting them.
If you want echoes, scraps have higher value the more of them you spend. The best per-scrap value is for 3200 items. It’s true, it’s not very profitable if you’re getting 1-2 scraps per action, because they come out to a value of just under 0.5 echoes each. But the Bazaar lodging is profitable just in giving you 2 echoes, plus you get 4 scraps. The Lair in the Marshes also has an option that gives 1 scrap and 1 Society favour, which is wortwhile regardless of the scrap. Play those enough and it’ll add up.
I’ve gotten ~3600 scraps almost entirely from the premises at the Bazaar, and recently a hundred or so from the Lair in the Marshes.
It’s a very long term investment, on the order of years, to get the 3200 scrap items from otherwise profitable actions. So I wouldn’t really “expect” getting the items from them since none of us know if we’ll be playing the game that long. But it’s still nice.
Thanks folks! Will collect them for a possible good cause.
If you try to sell 900 echos worth of a thing & the sale engine freezes up (the little loading circles just going around infinitely) is there any way of cancelling the transaction that wont result in me writing an email to support?
An acquaintance has invited me to a lethal sparring bout! I’m very excited, but it’s a point of personal pride that I’ve never died. Luckily, I have a horsehead amulet. Am I correct in believing it will save me from death? If so, is it unsporting to use an amulet in an interplayer duel?
