Fallen London has been on the slow side for me for at least a day now. I can barely get the page tp load, and even then the buffering on actions is raising my wounds to eight!
I’m assuming FL is just getting a lot of traffic since Penstock’s Elevator of Sadness, Easy-Mode to Lodgings, and Dreams opened again recently.

I’ve heard that the patches for Meltdown and Spectre can slow down computers, web servers included. My wild guess would be that, assuming that their servers have been patched, that they are not getting the same speed out of their machines as they used to, and that Fallen London is going to be a little sluggish until they can get more server resources online.
Just my guess though.

First, the supposed slowdown from the Meltdown OS patches (there’s no patch yet for Specter) is mostly theoretical at this point. It was observed in some specific old CPUs running artificial test applications which do nothing but system calls.
Second, if this was indeed related, you’d just see a minor (yet annoying) lag. You wouldn’t see the site lagging so much that it’s practically unresponsive.
Third, if these OS patches would have caused such a lag for cloud apps, you’d see this lag in a hell of a lot more of the web than just Fallen London.
Just my opinion without further knowledge of FBG’s infrastructure.
I can’t get the site to load at all right now. Tried two different browsers and on my tablet. (I mean, I should be in bed already anyway seeing as I need to be up for work in six hours. But my deck was going to be full!) Prior to the current brokenness it was very slow but usable. edited by Daisy MacRae on 1/8/2018
I strongly suspect that the site is getting overloaded by everyone launching a full-scale assault on Penstock’s Wicket to try and get their Noman before the price rises. edited by Daedalus_Falk on 1/9/2018
