I’ve currently been disillusioned with Fallen London… well, that might be too strong of a word. Whatever the case, I have simply ceased to regularly play it.
So. For reasons I may disclose later, tell me a joke or an experience you may or may not have had. Although I’d prefer it to be FL-related, you can clarify otherwise if you think your joke is a good one. Or a bad one. I won’t judge.
Well, I once saw a forum thread that persuaded me to purchase 400 weasels. After having a brief frolic, I found myself with approximately 399 more weasels than generally necessary for life. I had resigned myself to jettisoning them individually and slowly to gain favor with urchins, but I got to the requisite point in the Dilmun Club storyline and was delighted. I like to imagine a tiger, imperiously waving a claw, demanding tribute, when this slightly grubby little thief pulls a sack of weasels out of her literal back pocket and just ceremoniously hands them over, 40 at a time, in exchange for a new tiger friend. I got a cool new companion and something to do with my weasel surplus in one go!
I used to have plans for my characters. As I met new players, my plans changed. Some of them for better! Some of them made me extremely bitter, but determined to pull through. Now, after three years of playing FL and roleplaying all sorts of relationships, I can safely say “Always look to love. Always.”
I thought I started in 2009, but it could have been '08, I’m no longer sure, so I said "Decade" in the poll. Apologies if I got that wrong, but I have been playing a long time. The person who originally invited me to play no longer plays, has not played in years, but I do, and I’ve sucked in my husband. (He’s already gotten his Hesperidean Cider, darn it.)
EDIT: If Wikipedia is right, I can’t have been playing FL for 10 years (and neither can anybody else, because Alexis started developing it in June 2009, and the site was only released in October 2009. However, I suspect I started soon after it came out as the friend who hooked me on the game tends to be an early adopter. It’s certain that I’ve been playing a damn long time. edited by cathyr19355 on 2/5/2018 edited by cathyr19355 on 2/8/2018
Having just completed about one year in Fallen London, I have to say I’ve been floored by how much content is in the game! But I also admit to worrying that, now that I had become a POSI, obtained a ship, and seen all the seasons once, that substantial content might begin to get repetitive. That the only new content would be exceptional stories, or premium content, or super end-game content that would take ages to unlock).
But then I met the wonderful role-players in the forums, and that added a whole order of magnitude of depth to an my game! The connections I’ve made have been the best roleplaying experiences I’ve had in a long time, and I am now roleplaying several character friendships/relationships, writing a creative fiction piece with my wife involving taking down Jack-of-Smiles, and starting a group RP. So I am way over my head at this point. Suffice it to say, I now need more time to play Fallen London!
So I guess my advice would be: To anyone who finds themselves running out of interesting things to do in Fallen London, find some awesome friends in the forum, make connections, and create your own stories if you can.
