Table Eleven at an 1894 Hallowmas Dinner Party

“This is a dinner party, is it not? And a fish course is customary, is it not?” The cat regards Eleonor with what might be disdain, or possibly just the usual attitude of a cat toward a human. (These might be the same thing, admittedly.)

“But if you say there is no fish, I suppose I shall have to take you at your word.” The cat’s bright eyes inspect all of the guests at the table.

&quotIt’s strange, but after that, they started to let me into some of their secrets. I’ve been working with the Masters, you know. Not in everything, certainly, but they trust me. After a fashion, in the case of some of them, but they do find me reliable. Enough to entrust me with some little jobs here and there. And a shop at the Bazaar. And some consideration at Christmas. A paperweight, once. But if they knew…&quot He takes a sip of wine. His scarf curls comfortably around his shoulders.

&quotThey trust me now. Think they’ve reformed me. And perhaps they’re right, in a sense. Certainly, I’ve aided them in their schemes. Propped them up. Saved them from revolution. And started robbing them again, right from under their noses. They don’t even realize that they’ve been stolen from, that their own thefts have been turned against them.&quot

&quotSomeday, they’ll take me into their innermost circles. And I’ll betray them. Steal their most precious thing at their very moment of triumph.&quot[/quote]

&quotYou’d betray them?! And after they’d given you a paperweight! The cheek of it, sir!

&quotIn truth, my main concern is self-serving - the rarer a book is, the less chance I have to read it. The rest is just window dressing to sway the argument. &quot

The lady looks at the cat under the table. &quotI’m afraid the dinner portion of the evening has long since ended. The staff were ill inclined to continue serving after the our earlier rambunctiousness. Dessert may still occur, but the party is winding down.&quot

“Fish is dessert,” a huffy feline voice declares, and the cat stalks away - but not so far that she can’t listen to the discussion while cleaning her paws.

(OOC, not sure how long this thread is going to go on for, but as Hallowmas is officially over I just thought I’d say what a great time I had! Really, super fun. And seriously, all of you feel free to spam me with social actions, just mention if it’ll increase any menace. This holds for all of you, but Catherine Raymond especially: I’m pretty well done for Notability and such, so if you need to farm MW just send me a message and invite me to Dante’s Grill.)

&quotI’ve had a most wonderful time indeed,&quot replied Lady Catherine. &quotAll of you have played the part of true friends, though I’ve only just met most of you! If I can provide any future assistance with Nightmares or any other social act please, do not hesitate to call upon me.&quot

&quotHear, hear,&quot says Inevitable Gremlin, &quotAnd the same can be said for me–well, if I’m not at zee.&quot

“I agree, it has been a most delightful evening. Regardless of how long it goes on, and whether we might meet again at later times, it has been a true pleasure meeting each of you.” Vena inclines her head in a graceful nod to each person seated at the table, her eyes sparkling.

Sajach slowly rises after far to many drinks and says to the gathered group &quotThank you for the company. I am sorry for not participating as much as I would have liked. Hopefully this can happen again in the future&quot[li]
