Sponsorship request: marathon + Samaritans

An off-topic post by an admin! And related to Fallen London only in that that I built the place. I won’t make a habit of this. But, good cause, and, Christmas.

Samaritans is a volunteer-staffed 24-hour emotional support telephone service aimed particularly, but not exclusively, at callers who may be at risk of suicide. (They’re UK-based, but non-UK-based readers might know them as Befrienders Worldwide). Despite the name, Sams are entirely secular, and ‘worthy’ doesn’t even begin to describe how vital the service is to hundreds of thousands of callers every year. Those of you’ve played Machine Cares may have picked up on the fact that some of us at Failbetter feel deeply about this topic. And Christmas is a particularly dark time for people in one kind of despair or another.

Samaritans was the obvious choice for a charity to support when I so rashly decided to run the Brighton Marathon. To be clear, if you click that link it’ll ask you to donate money to a charity. For those of you engaged in the Mr Eaten content, there is the additional incentive that you will be paying for me to suffer various kinds of physical misery. Also, you’ll be able to see that I’m not actually a tiger in a hat.

[Note: I’ve no idea how whether that link will work outside the UK.]

I’d really appreciate it, folks. Public service announcement over. Thanks for reading.

This is just to say that I successfully limped past the finish line yesterday. With offline donations, I raised 810 GBP in the end.

Many thanks to those of you who sponsored me: I really appreciate it. :-)

Good on you for supporting a good cause.
