I think writing is really difficult when you’re in a well; the ink blackens the water, and all the paper gets moist.
I considered that, and decided you were probably right. So I did the only sensible thing. Also, it turns out that Mr. Eaten doesn’t have any free evenings, he’s very busy down in that well.

I sent him a Christmas card, with a kind message even since you know Chistmas spirit. He did not reply so either he can’t reply, or all shall indeed be well.
