No. Even if you have all the items already, Fidgeting Writer is only ~1.91 EPA. Tribute approaches 2.22 EPA, with the downside that you can’t use cards most of the time.
Thx
SMEN is done and will not be receiving any further updates. The mastermind behind the whole thing, Alexis Kennedy, is no longer with Failbetter, so changing anything content-wise is out of the question.

If anybody wants to be Betrayed and start the SMEN storyline for themselves, feel free to drop me a line.

The "Gather Intelligence" text at the Chapel in Sunless Sea refers to a "congregation" of people who are "strangely difficult to count" (Obscurity?) so it’s likely you’re not the first one.
I suspect that part of the reason they’re difficult to count is that some of them get betrayed and never leave, but Obscurity certainly helps, yes.

Just a tip for anyone wanting to get the Pleasure Yacht after losing one’s ship to Avid Horizon: the Fidgeting Writer storyline is a faster way to get Comprehensive Bribes than getting them from the Bazaar Side-streets.
If you plan far enough in advance, you can even convert your items to Fidgeting Writer steps before Winking Isle, since you don’t need to sell those.

I’m skeptical that’s the case—when you visit in SMEN, the priest clearly hasn’t seen anyone get that far in Seeking before. Having other attendees with Obscurity would contradict that. (Plus the implications that you never actually leave the Nadir.)
I always read that as the Chapel’s proximity to Eaten things making it a liminal space, full of ghosts and hallucinations and such.
Somewhat newbie seeker here, can I ask two questions about the Winking Isle to the rest of you along for this terrible journey?
Firstly, does a single visit use up your calling card? So if you go back to London before getting enough SMEN to finish, you need to make another one?
And second, any thoughts on what the best way to get past preparations is? I suppose I’ll sell everything I can’t have and spend all my money on something winking isle doesn’t touch that I can sell again after. Is there anything in particular in the bazaar that gets a better deal when bought and sold? I’m pretty sure the best deal you can get is selling for half the price you bought it for, but just in case there’s anything better…
That’s assuming I don’t want the Who Is Salt ending anyway, which I still don’t quite understand (do you have to travel to isle then back to london? do you need to somehow avoid picking either grieve or hate before, even though either of those seem to be needed to unlock the isle?). I already have 7 heartless so I think I may as well Hate…
Visiting Winking isle does not consume the calling card, and rookery passwords are the best for preserving your money. (Who is salt requires giving up extra stuff, but does not require you to return to London)

If you’ve reached the current end of the Dilmun Club sotryline, then it’s much better to preserve your money with Orphans.

Welp there’s a Dilum Club storyline? I joined but I’ve never found that, I’ll have to go looking…

Thanks heaps! Huh what does consume a calling card then, how come I see stuff on this forum about people wanting to create multiple cards? Or was that on the old version of SMEN?
And I might think about Who is Salt then, but I heard it’s an annoyingly vague ending to some people… that being said I did the East ambition on Sunless Sea and loved it so maybe it will work for me. It appears that my ‘A Question’ quality is already set to ‘What is forgotten’ even though I never Grieved, not sure why is this a thing but looks I have all three endings to choose from. Hmmm. Decisions decisions.

To clarify: the Dilmun Club story isn’t complete, but a few months ago FBG have released the continuation of it (you need to first complete at least one term as Governor in Port Carnelian). If you advance to the new content boundary, you’ll unlock a very profitable grind which involved buying lots and lots of Orphans…
Nothing consumes a calling card, prople make multiple to send to other people.
If you’re planning on completing the storyline, it doesn’t much matter what you do with the money from everything you sell. Unless you have some use for it before going NORTH, there’s no reason to care about what’s most efficient.
If you liked Exaltation in SSea, you’ll probably like the Who is Salt? ending. It’s somewhat confusing even with the information from SSea, but that context lets you catch all the important details.
This is a tip for those who are having multiple characters go on Seeking:
When you have managed to get a character to start the Fasting carousel at the Well (that is a tedious and very long checklist), you can use this character’s “Myself” tab to compare against the “Myself” tab of other characters. It is much easier than trying to tick off individual entries in the checklist.
P.S. If you are following this suggestion, don’t forget to check the Connections drop-down list too; no Docks or Society favours allowed, just so you know. Don’t forget to divest your Echoes too.
There’s also a very helpful browser style that highlights contraband on the Bazaar tab, which works for everything besides Favours.
Welp so does seeking really end your game? I’d heard some stories but I wasn’t sure, also wondered whether it was an optional thing. No matter, I’ve come this far…
And I was more afraid I might the money for stuff for my later candles, but I’ll see.

If you open the Gate? Yeah. It ends for that character.
To clarify: If you progress to the end of Seeking, you can choose between turning back for a special item, or opening the Gate for the Deep Lore at the cost of making your character unplayable. (Note that the character still exists; you’re just stuck in an area without real content.)
Also, because of Winking Isle, you don’t need any items for the candles after Cerise. You do need a ship, Nadir access, and the ability to reach Notability 12 (or the patience to wait for a seasonal event).
Eating my entry in Slowcake’s Exceptionals and freeing myself from notability was honestly one of the most satisfying gaming experiences of all time. Good riddance.
And I probably traumatized the little toady-man too, what a bonus!
