That is very interesting! Thanks for the confirmation. I was worried about trying myself since I currently have way too many of the things.
Well. I was dead for a while after running out of things to do, but now that there’s new(?) content, I’ll be back again for a while. I don’t suppose anyone has a convenient guide for how to seek the Name? I’ve taken the first step, and I’ve no idea at all on where to go next.
By the way, anyone who wishes to play Chess can invite me, but it may take me a few days to accept.
EDIT: Nevermind, I have found a bit of a guide. A brief look tells me… that this is faaaaaaaaar too much effort. S’pity. I quite liked being Unaccountably Peckish.

I am also still rebuilding my watchful stat back up to an acceptable level. To further this goal, I am sipping Darkdrop Coffee incessantly and playing games of chess in cafes and parks nonstop. I’d love another partner - Eglantine Fox and I have 79 games played so far over the past few days.
Folks looking for chess partners might find this to be agood place to start: http://community.failbettergames.com/topic148-find-friends-for-sparring-dinners-chess--theft.aspx?Page=49
That looks more like it’s for normal people, who want friends, a few second chances here and there for actual use as second chances, trading menace reduction, etc.
I was thinking of making a thread in the Mandrake specifically for trading large amounts of second chance actions for gaining stats back, to help those of us with blackened minds. Any reason not to?
I’ve sent you invites to five games of chess and would be happy to play many more. My watchful went from 205 to 23, so I could definitely use the insights.

Well, there are probably going to be options to allow penalizing seekers who are sufficiently far entrenched for personal gain. I would not be surprised if the progress points all result in some variant of this becoming available. creating a listing of seeking players in one handy place would be like herding fish into a barrel. I’m probably… actually, probably not being paranoid.

I don’t know, we’re all posting in a thread called Seeking Mr.Eaten’s Name, so…

I believe I established I’m just an observer, right? I said upthread that I was just watching until I knew what the costs are. Plus, this thread will likely fall by the wayside before that one does.

True, this thread would likely fall sooner. That being said, I recall that a thread sort of like what was proposed already exists, but only for menace reduction for Seekers.
Oh, and if they did once more give an option for Seekers to mess with other Seekers and such, they might be a little more… procedural than simply clicking on those who’ve clearly indicated they’re Seeking. I certainly am ;)

I meant non-seekers messing with seekers- well, all players. there was a mention of the finger-kings making that an option.
I haven’t posted here for a while, but just so everyone knows the Correspondence SMEN option cuts your Scholar of the Correspondence in level in half.

Uh, about that. I made an incredibly foolish decision, out of idiotic curiosity. instead of buying chestnuts, I ate raw meat. I did not mean to start seeking the name, but now that I have, I don’t want to close the option completely, for the rest of time. Anybody have any advice? Will I just be able to keep eating chestnuts? Or will the game give me cards that force me to continue?

Don’t worry, all you need to do is remove your Unaccountably Peckish and you won’t get any Seeking Oppurtunity Cards. Well, after you get Banner with a Strange Device or Alphabet of Scars. Once you get those, just go to The Labyrinth of Tigers, 1st coil and eat some Rubbery Lumps to remove UP.

There’s a thread up for any wishing to be sent chess games to reboost your Watchful! As many have said, listing your name MIGHT be a risk later on, but we haven’t seen this yet. So, if you’re hurting to grind your Watchful and willing to risk the possibility of someone betraying you later on should the risk arise, then carry on delicious friend.
I have a question for experienced Seekers who are also seeking the Marvelous. Is the Heart’s Desire option to Go North at Seeking 7 open at 7 minimum, or 7 exactly? I want to take that (once I get there), and wish to plan accordingly.
Also, does Looking into the Water in the Nadir have a cap? For the record, I went from SMEN 3 to 4.

It’s at 7 minimum, I’m pretty sure. It doesn’t effect SMEN. The Nadir option caps at SMEN 4.
Are you sure it does not affect SMEN? Has someone tried it after the new SMEN started?
"No Restitution for the Drowned Man" from Knave of Regrets raised my SMEN from 4 to 5, added Marsh Mired, and raised my Heartless from 1 to 2. No ill effects.
EDIT: It should be noted that I don’t have Meloncholy, and the opposite action raises Meloncholy and lowers Heartless.

Thank you for that little piece of information-I hope that we figure out all of the SMEN card caps. It will be important for people without a veritable trove of Appalling Secrets and Cryptic Clues.
