River in a box?

I’m not convinced the box is actually going to do anything, tbh - I reckon it might just be a present from the masters during the festival. From the description it doesn’t sound like it’s going to do anything, at any rate.

Maybe not, but it’s worth 32 Echoes, 50 pence at the Bazaar, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. Though I suspect that sentimentality and the fear that I might need one someday to unlock a Storylet will keep me from selling mine, alas.

I won’t be selling mine because it wouldn’t be in character. It’s a nice souvenir of the event anyhow. ^^

I’ve sold mine already, because it would be very out of character not to =P

Hurray for in character decisions! My alt will sell his, but I’m waiting to see if it’ll do anything first.

Looking back in hindsight, has anyone who allied with the Last Constable received one?

Yep.

Yes!

The Cheery Man and the Last Constable Favouring the Cheery Man

I still qualified.

So, do we think there was some secret way to turn the river in a box into a mirrorcatch box? I can’t think where the handful of mirrorcatch boxes came from otherwise… I’m so curious! Maybe the river in a box was clickable for a little while and most of us missed it?

I think the mention of the calendar council and cheery man might have been a hint as to how to get one, but I have no idea. The cheery man does mention he’s got a sunlight-smuggling operation going on, and a mirrorcatch box sure does seem like the appropriate equipment for such an endeavour.

Mmm - maybe if you got high nightmares the cheery man card had an extra option on it or something. I try to always keep my nightmares low so I very rarely see that card. It must have been something not very obvious, given that only 11 people got their paws on it.

By the Cheery Man i mean the dude involved with the last constable, not the cheerful gentleman who haunts those at the brink of insanity

I’m almost tempted to have another go at the Affluent Photographer story to see if there have been any changes.

Does anyone know if there any other re-playable stories involving the Calendar Council?

I’ve been having a crack at going through the photographer as well, actually.

My bets are that the mirrorcatch box might have something to do with the Cheery Man card that’s undiscardable and has a plethora of options depending on your Airs of London. But that would depend on having sided with the cheery man, so anyone who sided with the constable would be out of luck on that regard. Unless there’s TWO ways of getting it, one involving the calendar council and the other involving the cheery man

hell it might not even be possible to get a mirrorcatch box any more for the time being, it might have had something to do with the Feast and therefore is locked to us. hm

Oh, duh, of course. Of course, if FB will have two characters called Cheery Man and Cheery Gentleman there is bound to be confusion, heh.

I’ve only come across the calendar council via the affluent photographer story, but then I do have a memory like a sieve at times, as demonstrated…

The calendar council showed up at christmas as well, but it is no longer christmas.
e: all the results for “a drink with the cheery man” are up on the wiki, but obviously getting a mirrorcatch box wasn’t going to be quite that easy. he does mention December from the calendar council on the “partners and rivals” option, at least.

Maybe it was something people got during the Christmas event? That would make sense, given that the other options were crustacean and lacre… P’raps it was a very rare success.

It could be… I don’t know if we’ll ever know for sure unless we either manage to find one ourselves or get one of the mysterious 11 boxhavers to spill their secrets. or a writer sticks his head into the forum thread and laughs because it was a 2% rare success branch on some content from 2007 or something

I favor the Last Constable, so I am screwed. But how about this.
The Cheery Man card is influenced by the Winds. The Winds change. The box mentions the River. So maybe it’s a combination of having correct Winds and the right location (probably the Docks)?
