It has been many years since I played Fallen London - back when it was still called the Echo Bazaar in fact. I tried to sign in some time ago and begin again, but I had lost the thread of many of my ongoing plots, and the rearrangement of content meant where I could recall the story I couldn’t seem to find the next steps. In fact, I believe at the time there was an option given to me about replaying some lower level content in order to get my character rejiggered along the then-current state of Qualities and Items but I misunderstood the option and blew it - I logged back out.
I suspect if I want to return I’ll have to begin again, for the sake of my sanity - a pity, as I was invested in that gentleman, but so it goes.
A few questions:
Has anyone attempted a return after years of absence? Any tips?
I was regularly hitting the content barrier back in the old days - I suspect that won’t be a problem now, but has the reworking of early game content mean I will be playing for a long time before getting back to where I was before (~150 in the big qualities)?
If I do play with regularity, is there any more likelihood of major stories being resolved? Are Ambitions still open ended?
And, finally, if I do start from scratch, I have a little fate and nex in various accounts sloshing around I’d like to consolidate. Is that possible?
Many people have (In fact we seem to get one every few months) I can’t speak for them, but hopefully they’ll pop in. I would actually say, after getting your bearings with your new character, head back to your old one. They probably have items and qualities that are no longer obtainable, and that’s pretty cool.
The reworking actually speeds up stat increases, so no worries there.
The ambitions are all an update or two away from completion. SMEN has been finished, and perma-kills your character. If you become an exceptional friend, you get a story every month.
No. In fact, Nex doesn’t even exist anymore.
You may not have heard, but they released a companion game called sunless sea for computer. There will be a kickstarter for the sequel, sunless skies, in february. edited by suinicide on 1/5/2017 edited by suinicide on 1/5/2017

Re: Fate and Nex. I know that FBG were allowing the use of Nex for Fate for awhile, but that was back when they’d first got rid of Nex. I don’t know whether Nex is still usable from old accounts that haven’t been played for years since Nex was phased out; you may want to check with FBG tech support.

You can ask the support to send the fate from those accounts to your new account, they are usually friendly and will almost surely do this if you give them proof that those are your accounts.
Something that hasn’t been mentioned and which is probably new to you: if you’ve been thrown out of Court all those years ago (for performing a scandalous opera), you can now go to London’s colony Port Carnelian (via ship) and spend some time as Governor there. You must visit the Foreign Office first, though (it’s found in Wilmot’s End).
I once did, and I found it pretty easy to get my bearings after some initial exploring - also worth mentioning is that we are waiting for a new season of knife and candle, so you can’t stab your friends right now.
