Pools of Lacre at the bottom of the ocean?

Apparently life imitating FL continues:

In the Gulf of Mexico, at the bottom of the sea, there is a toxic sea that is even more sunless.

Undersea lakes where fish and crabs drown (drown at the bottom of the ocean!) and are preserved for decades. Their pickled bodies lasting until they wash up on the &quotshore&quot and are eaten by scavengers.

So is this beyond the Gate, then? That being where the sea more sunless is.
