Please Revamp Menace Management Cards

Same here - I make the vast majority of my plans around storylets, so if I keep getting good cards then I’ll get frustrated. It’s why I pretty much completely ignored my opportunity deck when I was new to Fallen London.
If you want to see assymetry in Menace design, consider Irrigo, Turncoat, Plagued by a Popular Song and Troubled Waters.

Compared to them, lesser Menaces might as well be identical to each other.

I accidently clicked the wrong option when doing the boxful of intrigue carousel twice. I’d /really/ like a way to reduce Turncoat, without needing to hit Turncoat 4. I’d even be fine if the option were expensive, so long as it were an option.

After having experienced their content, I don’t see them as Menaces at all. The reasons are as follows:

Irrigo is there to limit the player from spending too much time in the Cave of the Nadir, and punish the player for trying to linger. (By the way, you can trigger the forced storylet after getting more than nine ranks of Irrigo if you accidentally click on &quotPerhaps Not&quot.) The effects of Irrigo does not appear to go beyond content in the Cave.

As for Turncoat, really, it’s just there to punish misclicks or accidental taps.

Plagued by a Popular Song is part of the Mahogany Hall content - which is incomplete and has been so for years. It is mainly accumulated through content in the Mahogany Hall, but is utilized as a Menace in very few other places.

Troubled Waters is indeed perhaps the closest to a Menace quality, but it was implemented for Zee-zailing because the four Menaces do not work on the Zee.

I heard that argument before, and I will repeat my response to that kind of argument again: wait 'till you hit the content boundaries. You will soon change your opinion.

Pretty much most white cards could use a revamp, to be honest, but the current announced focus is on actually paying their narrative debt and finishing long due content first.

I’d say, based on what cards are actually being changed so far, that most changes in the foreseeable future will mostly be adding sources of renown.

The Consideration card isn’t exactly picked out as a junk card to be revamped so much as it’s revamped alongside all Hell related content for Renown.

(An aside, but you may consider actually sending a mail to feedback@failbettergames.com with what you posted earlier, regardless of our responses. Also most people here didn’t just hit the content boundaries, they crashed into it and have been there like whales on beach for years.)

Because your usual complains are related to efficient Echo grind. Relax and enjoy the game/RP more than the E. I was a bit E greedy before getting my Ubergoat, but since then, almost 8 months, I never ever cared about money and started grinding some connections, getting some other achievements crossed from the list. Oh, but I do want a Cider, but there’s no rush!

What? :D Still, even w/o being a Shepherd, menaces are really easy to manage. Started my first alt which will experience pain and I have no issues with any menaces; I just have to plan a few actions/cards.

Waves from Mutton Island while increasing Stormy-Eyed. Fruits of the Zee was the first time I didn’t have to worry about cards and I must admit it was an interesting and relaxing experience! :)

More than an year old and I think I have 30-40% free content excluding Ambitions and SMEN. After those will be done with, more RP and more achievements! New ideas in this thread as well! :D

I have tried that. The responder told me to make a forum thread because they can’t make a decision based on emails by individuals alone. I was even told that the emails should be for bug reports or urgently-needed fixes.

It’s a mistake to make assumptions like that - among other mistakes like not proofreading for typos.

Also, I remember that bulk of my complaints are about the Renown grind, fickle RNG rolls, junk cards and frustrating luck-of-the-draw scenarios.

The most that I have said about Echo-accumulation in this forum board is about Echoes gained from selling surplus resources at the end of every week.

Wait, did you send it to feedback@failbettergames.com or to support@failbettergames.com? Only the latter should be the one for bugs and such.
This atrocity will not stand, and I must correct your ill-informed misconceptions, however harsh and venomous my tone shall become.

Progress Quest is the pinnacle of asymmetry (only one stat is useful; the others, chopped livers), character (dung elves), surprises, frustration, unfairness and unpredictability. This quaint dirt-drowned backwater city bereft of sunlight cannot possibly contain any adventure that can match the legendary thrills of Progress Quest! Now shoo!

My humblest apologies. I was, indeed, unjust to Progress Quest. Totally uncalled for. Will take to heart. limps away clutching her vorpal bandyclef

I know that the latter is for bugs.

I had sent emails on suggestions to feedback@failbettergames. For most of them which Failbetter’s staffers responded to, I was given the usual courtesy of &quotthank you for your feedback&quot remark and nothing else. In the last few ones, I was advised to make forum threads at The Bazaar board.

Regardless of whether resource gains were on your mind, though, this has implications for such. Menaces are a cost attached to certain actions (as well as a consequence of failure). Making menaces easier to remove lessens the cost of gaining certain Favours, among other things.

As well, I don’t think Failbetter should be balancing menace reducing cards around the idea that people will be curing their menaces by dumping social actions on alts. When one takes into account that sending a menace cure request to another player will likely be met with a request in turn, there is only a slight disparity between the opportunity cards and the social actions. This then becomes a choice of whether one would rather wait to draw a card or wait for another player to respond, which may be decided differently based on the circumstances.

If echo grinding isn’t the issue, and Counting the Days isn’t that important, then I’m even more lost what the problem is with the menace cards…

When you have menaces, they show up. You play them to make the menaces go down. Sometimes when you’re lucky and an appropriate option is available that goes along with a Counting the Days increase. They work fine!
