Mr Chimes' Lost & Found

So it’s live now. There’s quite a lot of stuff.

Many familiar faces and other reminders of past stories. Some opportunities to accrue more bonuses to the new parabola/lab -related skills, a few new lab assistants.

I rather suspect a number of people will choose to cover their entire body in cats.

Really? I looked a while back and again now, and I still don’t see it. Did you have to do a refresh?

So the Cricketer, the Protester, the Classicist and the Daughter can work in the lab… I’m guessing the Protester would be good with weapons and explosives, and the Classicist with cartography? Perhaps the Cricketer with calculations, and the Daughter with chemistry?

Somewhere (the Finishing School?), I believe it’s mentioned the Daughter is proficient with poisons. Note that mechanically, chemistry and toxins are distinct project types in the lab. Currently neither have repeatable experiments.

I’m very tempted by +2 Monstrous Anatomy, but I might hold off on purchasing anything until we find out more about the game uses of Mithridacy and friends. If anyone is willing to share about our wonderful cat friends, I’m all ears.

I looked just now and didn’t see it, but then I went to the actual House of Chimes to look (as I suspect many people did). I didn’t even consider that it’d be a shop in the Bazaar itself, somehow.

So I did this: Fallen London

I suspect the quality may have an opportunity card or something, but I didn’t draw anything related to it so far. Not that I needed a reason.

Edit: now the quality is gone except for one of them. Hmmm…

Edit 2: aaand now they’re all gone. Wtf?

FYI if you want to know how much of the currency you have, it’s an item in the Curiosity slot. (For now… I wouldn’t be surprised if it moved to Currency or Book.)

I’ve made an adjustment so the cat quality is hidden. The change is deliberate.

Ooh, so it’s not removed but only hidden? Well, now I’m even more curious if it actually does anything ;) Also makes me wonder if any of the other items have hidden stuff.

Thanks, found it now. As someone else mentioned, I was looking in the wrong place. (Duh…)

Well, that didn’t take long.

Am I right in assuming you acure a memory of a tale for every exceptional story you’ve played? Or just fate lock story? Because I have several, and the offerings have a focus on previous fate-locked stories.

If you wear all the Chimes cats and go to the House of Chimes, you can get a special not-BiS companion.

Failbetter, we’ve asked for years and enough is enough! Where is our fifth item slot? Morning, Evening, Incognito, Hard-Wearing… all very good, but we need Feline! ;)

Hmm, if FB has introduced the concept of equipment sets, I wonder if the four Whitsun clothes items have any effect when worn in tandem somewhere?

Holy Hannah! Look at all those goodies!

I would like to elaborate that since it’s impossible to get everything even if you completed all of the Exceptional Stories at least once, just focus on getting stuff that you like, though there are a few stand-outs:

Lab Assistants can be a good long-term investment if you really like the Lab and research projects.

A few of the companions are also BiS in the secondary stats like Mithridacy and Monstrous Anatomy, and unless Failbetter wants to introduce rapid power-creep into the game, will remain so for at least a while.

It’s also nice to collect cats, but preferably as a complete set.

Otherwise, do not worry about getting everything and have fun.

Given that a lot of these items - especially the more expensive ones - are directly related to some of the Exceptional Stories, I wonder if more items will gradually be become available with new ES every now and then.

I am now the owner of many cats.

Mechanically worthy? Nah

Role-play-wise? The best purchases I’ve ever made.
