So I’m preparing to head DownTown (WhereTheHopheadsFlopInTheSnow) and before I spend a bunch of actions going down there where I will (presumably) not have access to the bazaar, I’m wondering if there’s anything I should stock up on to maximize the experience? Like… should I get my renown: rubbery men up to a certain level? Should I just bring a metric boatload of moon pearls or nevercold brass or some other innocuous resource I wouldn’t consider? Is there some very simple thing I should pick up so I don’t find myself in the position I was in when I went to polythreme and only then found out I needed a specific vintage to continue my ambition?
Up to level 40.
There are some items you need in order to reach Flute Street the first time, I don’t remember which ones, but there is one character who will tell you what you need before you leave London.
IIRC the only thing you need is renown: rubbery men 40.
To get to Flute Street the first time, you need lots of Foxfire Candles–I forget the exact number, but I’d cash in 5-7 Church Favours to be sure I had enough. I forget what if any other commodities are required.
You don’t really need anything except the items to get there the first time, having 7 Favours: Rubbery Men and Renown 40: Rubbery Men can be handy however!
Worth noting that you can go back anytime for I think 10 actions and one click (no need to go the long way, although IIRC you still have the option to if you liked the journey), so no need to really rush rubbery renown if you’re not there yet. As a matter of fact, Flute Street can be used to grind rubbery renown - the carousel there gives a favour if you pick the right ending choice; it’s tedious but possible.
that 10 action return journey cost is precisely why I want to make sure I’m not missing anything obvious. Can you use inventory items in Fluke Street? I assume not but worth checking.
You can not use inventory items.
It’s several hundred, if not a thousand candles, plus small animals to, erm, smooth the path. But the drownie tells you in advance.
You are told everything you will need for the journey after you get the guide, some are for her fee and some for the obstacles you face. There is a three hand deck on the way and if the card draws go against you extra candles might be useful
Once you get there you are in a Carousel, as far as I remember you don’t need any items for any of the options. While you are there you can stay as long as you want and I recommend repeating the carousel, seeing all that Flute Street has to offer, on your first visit.
There are a number of steps that give nothing, a second stage where you get different items depending on the options you take and then a final choice at the end of the Carousel one of which ties into Breeding for the Bishop (you can only get one of those animals per visit) The rubbery renown 40 is also one of the options at that stage.
