Loads of Scrap

Now that I’ve finally broken the 3200 certifiable scap barrier, I cannot for the life of me remember what I was saving up for. Does it matter which of the 4 available items I get? Should I shoot for all four eventually, in the hope of … err … something?

What’s your Ambition, and have you finished it yet? There are some optional uses for super expensive items in Heart’s Desire and Bag A Legend.

Nemesis, and no. And I bought a goat and am still saving up for knives. :)

Hold onto the scrap.

Having played the game for seven years and with six characters, I would say that you should hoard them until you need them.

You would have to wait for the cards to appear, of course. The Relickers are still the only ones who would accept the scrap.

All four open one of the options to advance Paramount Presence.

Is that still true? Even if it is, I found it much easier to just get 10,000 echos.

This step was not removed, nor it was planned to be removed.

I feel like a child in a candy shop being told to save my pennies for my retirement. Waaahhhhh. :)

Given that the 4 possible rewards seem to have no current use, and that I slipped into the Old Guard just under the wire, why not just pick a reward and salt it away? (Resisting, of course, the urge to convert it to cash to buy knives with.) :)

Well, first of all, converting scrap to cash is pretty terrible, since the EPA is atrocious and it takes so long to accumulate scrap. To wit, with a deck heavily optimised for scrap grinding, I think I averaged somewhere between 1 and 1.5 scrap/action; a scrap is equivalent to 0.5E (only if you cash in 3200 at a time, mind you, else it’s even worse) and modern money grinds reach above 3EPA, meaning selling scrap for money is over six times less efficient than other money-making methods.

Otherwise, it’s really up to you to spend it how you wish. None of the top-tier items have a use right now, outside of Heart’s Desire or the PP option. The reasoning behind the advice to hold on is that you might change your mind on which item you want, or a use could be introduced for one of the items. It’s really quick and easy to trade away your scrap, much less so to get back to 3200. But other than just hoarding for the future, there’s no reason you couldn’t just spend it now, on whichever item catches your eye.
