I’d like to see you give the Fathomking the heart of a legend. I think you know which one ;-)
Oo, also: I’d like to see Alexis playing, and going to meet the Monkey Foundling.
I’m not sure if Alexis will be free to actually stream, but I’ll put this to him!

We’ll do a test stream at some point soon (today probably) so watch out for a notification about that if you fancy popping in.
I will eat my friends.
No wait I mean… that’s right isn’t it?
Looking at Aestival would be pretty cool, really intrigued as to the stories coming there in Pearl! Also, FBG vs Mt Nomad would definitely be good to see.

FBG vs Mt Nomad would probably be quite the thing, but as I’ll be doing the stream and that mountain scares the bejeebus out of me, it might not happen this time.

We’re hoping to do a test stream today if anyone is around later!
It’s true, I saw you struggling with the pirates up by hunters keep. Mt Nomad is a lot worse in comparison :P
Some combat tips:
- approach your enemy with your light off, preferably from behind.
- try to let your firing solution fully charge at a distance before they see you.
- If you need to run away, run away tangentially to stay out of their circular firing arc.
- Turn your light off if you aren’t facing your enemy directly as it lets them see you and gives you no benefit unless it’s shining directly at them.
- Use your light on your enemy to make your firing solution charge faster only if they’ve spotted you and escape is not an option (or if the next shot will end them).

Ahh I got the email from twitch, but sadly was at work :(. Looking forward to Friday though, should be a good one :D!

Now that launch day draws ever closer, I’m thinking about what I can do myself, though it’s fairly limited since my social network participation is minuscule and I don’t have a computer + connection that can stream actual games without exploding.
Something that I’m a bit concerned about is that it’s not a very videogenic game, if that makes any sense – not so much with the explosions and slapstick and facecam-reaction bait, more with lots of reading and thinking and quiet atmosphere. A good entertainer can make anything entertaining, but SS certainly seems to have an uphill climb with regard to YouTube/Twitch trends. Does anyone have advice, reassurance, or further observations about this?

Having finally gotten around to running a time calculation…
I will likely be in bed, asleep, because everything starts at 3:30am.
Icarus in Black with Blue Scintillack is an expensive (but very effective) way to end Mt Nomad’s existence in a hurry.
It probably wouldn’t be a terribly interesting playthrough, but I feel you could probably rush a Mt Nomad kill within 3 hours even from a new captain … the only hard part might be getting the 6000 for a Corvette (the cheapest ship with forward weapon capabilities).
Excuse U! :P

(Most players are muuuuch better at the game than I am. I take solace in the fact that it’s because I work around and about the game all day… if I played as much as I wanted I wouldn’t get anything else done. :D)

We’ve talked a bit in FBG towers about how YouTubers and streamers get on with the game. It’s certainly a challenge for vidding. Tex of the Black Pants Legion (YouTuber) has done a great job; he happens to know a lot about sailing and the period so he’s got lots to say that isn’t about the game directly but enhances the videos nonetheless.

Our advice would be to vid with a friend. Someone who isn’t familiar with FL/SS at all. That brings out a lot in the explaining/describing of the gameworld.
Our community is the smartest, funniest and most attractive on the whole internet. (Is that a new hat? Is it supposed to be… smiling? It looks great!) With your help and brilliant feedback, we’ve made a game we’re really proud of. Your kind support got us this far.

Our aim is to be in the top ten selling titles on Steam on our launch day. That kind of visibility could make a very meaningful difference to the future of Failbetter (and the future of the game, DLC, etc), so we are massing all of our efforts to get there on 6 February.

To make this happen, we need your help! Here are:

Ten Easy Ways YOU Can Help Us Crack the Top Ten on 6 February

This is the most important link for sharing and shouting about on the day: http://store.steampowered.com/app/304650/

1. Tweet or Tumbl about the game.
It takes a few seconds and will help hugely. Your endorsement means a lot to us.

2. Write a review of Sunless Sea on Steam.
Help people get to know the finished product. Upload a review (after the Early Access stuff has left the page) and help our finished game make a good impression on the public.

3. Reassure people that we do not practice cannibalism.
This rumour has been dogging us for more than a year now and it simply will not do.

4. Facebook-post.
This isn’t for everyone, but if you have friends and family who play games, or are a member of any Facebook groups who would genuinely enjoy the game, then this is the time to share it with them.

5. Get a prominent Sunless Sea tattoo, like we did.
I’m almost afraid to leave this one here in case someone actually does it. You all have previous (I’m looking at you, Seekers).

6. Stream the game on launch day, on Twitch, YouTube or Steam.
Promote the stream to your friends and followers, we’ll feature our favourites and may even drop in if you give us some notice. Just playing the game on Steam on the 6th will help drive awareness!

7. Paste the Steam URL into any chat windows you have open.
Add the phrase ‘REJECT THE DAWN MACHINE.’ They must be warned.

8. Reddit with us!
We’re doing an AMA on launch day, where we’ll be talking about Sunless Sea, Early Access, Fallen London and probably whether we’d fight one giant crab or a hundred small ones. More details to come.

9. Whisper ‘Sunless Sea’ into your cupped hands. Breathe it into bottlenecks, sing it down drainpipes, sign it to silent password-keepers. Only those two words. Do not explain. Do not stop.

10. Join us for our Virtual Launch Party!
Details are to be confirmed, but a number of hardy Failbetters will be sticking around on 6 Feb (UK evening/night time) to join YOU for an almost-actual, actually-virtual party. Things that we can neither confirm nor deny will happen: streaming Sunless Sea, dares, rats, the opportunity to chat to the team while we get progressively more drunk and emotional. Bring friends, rivals, cousins, people you’ve just met and want to impress.

If you’re planning something for launch, let us know, and we’ll use this thread to keep you updated with timings for the actual launch, AMA and virtual launch party. :D
Is it just me, or did you not add actually buying the game anywhere in your list?
I assume most people hanging out in the official Sunless Sea forum already have the game or already have serious plans to buy it :P I guess you could buy copies for your friends though!

Oh my, that would have been terribly gauche. Also, what Fretling said. ;)
Okay, big news…
You got Delicious Biscuit doing streams…
BIG name… whoot.
I’m watching so many people saying “buying it” and others saying they are going to join fallen… this should cause such a spike.
Usually, any game which Total Biscuit covers favourably has an immediate spike in sales.
Also watching his stream :-)
The curious feeling of having “hurrah, the people who made a thing I like are going to have success!” run up against “oh no, it is statistically improbable for 100% of these newly interested people to be as nice and lovely as most of the ones I have spoken to in these contexts so far”. Tell me that I’m living up to my name!
I’m afraid you’re not living up to your name. Now if you were musing that the last several years were but a long-laid plan to part people from their money and then vanish into the slums of London to live on second-hand shepherd’s pie for the rest of their lives, then I might suspect you were living up to your namesake.
