In the university I have recently decided to further the "making my name." I discovered one of the options furthered my progress, but in addition, gave my whispered hints and a sudden insight for cryptic clues. In the same location, I can help someone get something published, which grants me cryptic clues, and makes me more connected to both colleges.
So, in short, 29 actions (assuming all are successful), sees me gain roughly 1700 whispered hints, lose no cryptic clues, maintain a high count of sudden insights while also consuming them to increase my watchful significantly, all while getting me more connections to the colleges and furthering the "making my name." Needless to say, I’m pleased to have found such a rewarding and self-contained grind cycle. I’m well on my way to purchasing a lease at the premises of the bazaar…
I know, and I accept it. I want to finish the story, so I can become a person of some importance. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t milk every second of it. Let’s just say every step in the story will be a 100% success rate, eh? edited by Chrona on 12/29/2017
A couple of things worth keeping in mind:
If you’ve made progress in “A Name Whispered in Darkness” (the Shadowy storylines) you can eventually use Thefts of Particular Character or heists to acquire Bazaar Permits, which are overall a much faster way to get Bazaar lodgings than Whispered Hints. The catch is that you have to be a Person of Some Importance already, but that isn’t too hard.
If what you want is income, though, where you are in the University storyline is great. You can build up Casing, either by getting Whispered Hints as you are or, more profitably, by speaking to department members for Cryptic Clues, then instead use your casing in The Flit for a good chance at 270 more Cryptic Clues. That is probably the second most profitable unlimited grind and definitely the most profitable that doesn’t require you to leave London.
I have built up some of my “name whispered in darkness,” but by far, shadowy and that making my name is the weakest of all. I’m at roughly 118 watchful + items, whereas I’m at like 74 shadowy + items (just enough to break 100).
Yes, Shadowy seems a little more difficult to train compared to other stats. And another good way to Premises including Clues is upconverting them this way: Whispered - Cryptic - Appling Secrets - Journals of Infamy - Correspondence Plaques - Visions of the Surface - Touching Love Stories (need 1 Favours: Bohemians for 50:10 conversion) - Bazaar Permits! (need 1 Favours: Bohemians for 25:5 conversion). Works best mixed with robbery way to achieve Permits because of diversity.
